Amid the hullabaloo of new games being announced during E3 2017, the developer Techland has decided to show some love for the fan base of one of its older titles and arguably one of the best zombie video games to date, Dying Light, by offering a whole year of free DLC to those still playing the 2015 survival-horror release. To be specific, the studio has said that it is rewarding player loyalty by planning to dole out 10 new DLC packs for the game over the course of the next 12 months at no additional cost.

This should definitely come as good news to Dying Light fans, as the player base is still quite active with Techland saying that there are nearly 500,000 people playing each week, and that's impressive considering it has been nearly three years since the game's release. As of now, the studio has yet to confirm exactly what kind of content will be brought about in the expansion packs, but the company's CEO Paweł Marchewka has proclaimed the materials are "already in the works."

"Not a single day passes without requests for new weapons, outfits, and quests. In the face of such enthusiasm and engagement, we cannot keep quiet. Today I’m happy to announce Techland’s continuous support for Dying Light. Original content is already in the works and our fans can expect to face new challenging enemies, master new gameplay mechanics, solve more Harran mysteries, and even explore never-seen-before locations."

Thankfully, Techland isn't planning for the DLC to be a timed-exclusive on any specific platform, as it will be available across each version of Dying Light on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Additionally, the developer has declared there will eventually be a more frequent community events schedule that will have up to four events occurring per quarter. Not to mention, the studio also announced it's working on a new community platform to allow fans to give feedback on impending content and have a voice in determining what some of the upcoming DLC should be.

Interestingly, a new and free piece of Dying Light content is set to become available "in the coming weeks," but it apparently isn't one of the promised 10 DLC drops. As it so happens, Techland described it as "a taste of the new things coming to the game, before the '10 free DLCs in 12 months' campaign fully launches later this year."

Taking all of this into account, it's great to see Techland still supporting Dying Light for so long since its release back in 2015, especially when one considers the fact that it has two new games in the works. Hopefully, these forthcoming releases will get the same kind of sumptuous post-launch treatment that the survival-horror title has and continues to receive.

Dying Light is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
