Dying Light's newest DLC has arrived. With it comes demonic skeletons and beasts instead of zombies, and hellish labyrinths instead of an open city. While the gritty DLC looked intriguing at first, the Dying Light Hellraid DLC has been hit with mixed reviews thus far on Steam.

Dying Light Hellraid costs $9.99 on Steam and released on August 13, 2020. The dark fantasy vibe of the title may draw comparisons to games like Dark Souls, and the first-person nature of the gameplay may look similar to Skyrim given the swordplay and monsters. But the gameplay is very much that of Dying Light, with its familiar parkour movement and first-person melee gameplay. But fans don't seem overly impressed.

At the time of writing this article, Dying Light Hellraid only has a 44% positive rating out of the qualified members on Steam who have played the game. And unlike fans review bombing games like The Last of Us Part 2, the concerns for this game seem to have no hidden motives, and are seemingly based on genuine concern.

Players seem to be upset that Dying Light Hellraid feels like a skin more than actual new content. For the hardcore fans of the game, more of the same may be okay, but many would have preferred gameplay improvements and more to do. Additionally, the complaints are tied into the DLC being incredibly short and lacking true progression, exploration, and replay value.

There are certainly some positives to the DLC as well, with the game going places that the series never has before. Some of the negatives may be a bit concerning, however, as Techland has already had to answer to concerns about Dying Light 2, and its prolonged development. Fans can hope that the team will learn from the good and bad of the DLC and implement it into future projects.
