The developers at Techland include a rather interesting Harry Potter Easter egg in its post-apocalyptic zombie slaying title, Dying Light: The Following.

Most fans of Dying Light: The Following weren't shocked when Techland's expansion to the base materials of its popular survival horror title successfully rejuvenated the game with a breath of fresh air (our review even expressed as much). That said, considering the release is littered with fearsome foes, undead nightmares, and intense bouts of combat, most gamers wouldn't expect to find a Harry Potter-themed Easter egg stashed away somewhere within Countryside, which is the add-on's vast new area.

Nevertheless, Dying Light: The Following houses a fun little reference to the world-renowned wizard, by putting Harry Potter's cramped and tiny cupboard under the Dursleys' staircase into the game. For those fans who may have an intense disliking for the aunt, uncle, and cousin of the famous fictional character, they can rest easy knowing that the Dursleys probably didn't survive the apocalypse in the Dying Light universe.

Thanks to a find by Redditor vinc817, as seen in the image below, fans of Techland's best-selling title yet can get a look at Harry Potter's room cluttered with his possessions, including a pointed wizard hat on the bed, a broomstick hanging on the wall, and the character's signature round-rimmed eyeglasses resting on the nightstand next to a candle. Plus, there's even a bobblehead on the shelf in the room for Dying Light fans to interact with a number of times, which leads to a spooky surprise that shall not be named lest it be spoiled.

This isn't the first instance of fans finding pop culture references within Dying Light. As it happens, there are a quite a few that cater to the gaming crowd, with one being an homage to Super Mario Bros. "World 1-1" level. Not to mention, since Techland's action-RPG is a zombie-infested wasteland, it would only be right for the studio to give several nods to its precursors, as developers also included Easter eggs for Left 4 Dead, The Last of Us, and Plants vs Zombies.

With most Harry Potter video games being outright awful messes (LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4 isn't so bad, at least), it's nice to see the fantasy property get a competent, albeit slight bit of acknowledgement in Dying Light: The Following. Even if the wizard himself doesn't actually make an appearance in the survival-horror title in any way whatsoever, the allusion to J.K. Rowling's character is indeed pretty neat. And with Techland promising content updates through 2016 for Dying Light, we'll likely see even more Easter eggs like this one in the future.
