The live-service model has become one of the most popular forms of delivering content in the modern age, and it's evolved quite a bit since its popularization in 2017 with titles like Fortnite. Originally intended to keep players around for longer than ever before, when done right the live-service model can increase the longevity of a game exponentially, which is perfect for online multiplayer games. However, in recent years, even big-budget single-player titles have started adopting the live-service model in one way or another. Dying Light 2 is one such game.

Since Dying Light 2's launch back in February, the game has been updated multiple times, each one adding a variety of new content like brand new missions, new gear, new Infected types, and even entire game modes. Not every update has been major, but each one brings even more value to an already great game, keeping players around for longer. The latest step in Techland's five-year Dying Light 2 plan, Update 1.5 is set to add a brand-new Agent, along with some new bounties and missions.

The last update Dying Light 2 received was the 1.4 Update, which added the long-requested photo mode, along with some extensive tweaks, changes, and additions regarding the way missions work. This update introduced a "Chapter Agent" called Harper. This character acts as the hub for all the new missions and bounties in the game. Completing these tasks for Harper will allow the player to progress through the new ranking system, which in turn rewards them with the new currencies, which unlock new cosmetic items and gear. Update 1.4 was the first step in Techland's five-year roadmap for Dying Light 2, and set the groundwork that all future updates will build upon.

The next update heading to Dying Light 2, simply called Update 1.5, is doing exactly that, bringing a new Agent to the game that'll offer their own unique sets of missions and bounties. Named Shen Xiu, this new Agent is apparently a skilled tracker, and an archery expert, and is looking to hire a Nightrunner to help her with some as yet unknown tasks. This will undoubtedly result in a slew of new gear for the player, just as Harper's quests did in Update 1.4.

On top of this, a Balanced Mode and a VRR Mode will be coming to the PS5 versions of Dying Light 2 in this next update. While the Balanced Mode offers 60fps at 4K, the VRR Mode keeps the game at 1080p, but unlocks the fps. There's currently no official date for when players will get to download this new update, but Techland has said that it'll likely drop in a "couple of weeks," so fans won't have to wait too long.

In the same behind-the-scenes video that teased Update 1.5, Techland revealed that this marks the start of its planned cycle of updates, with a big content refresh planned to occur every 3-4 months between the game's major expansions. Regular technical updates designed to fix various bugs are also planned to occur more frequently, coming regularly between the major expansions and the content updates. It may have taken a few months for Techland to get to this point, but Update 1.4 and Update 1.5 tease a bright future for Dying Light 2.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch version is scheduled for release later this year.
