Dying Light 2’s release date is now just around the corner, and fans are growing excited to see what it has in store. Following such a long wait from the original Dying Light, fans are eager to finally see what the sequel will bring, and at this stage, it looks like a lot. Dying Light 2 will bring new gadgets, new zombies, and an entirely new setting, which looks to be one of the more exciting introductions. Dying Light 2 looks as though it could be worth the long wait and many delays, as has become clear through its plans for DLC.

While Dying Light 2’s exciting new features are a big draw for the game, there’s another aspect that fans of Dying Light are equally excited about. The new additions may be what will catch the headlines for the game, but for Dying Light fans, it is what hasn’t changed that will prove to be the biggest relief. This is because Dying Light 2’s recently revealed roadmap paints a very positive picture for the future of the game beyond its release. As is the case with the original Dying Light, it seems as though Dying Light 2 will continue to receive content long after its release, but this content shouldn’t be focused too much on cosmetics.

Dying Light 2’s Content Roadmap

The official Dying Light 2 Twitter account recently put out a tweet with an image of Dying Light 2’s post-launch roadmap, which caught the attention of fans. The roadmap promised an initial five installments of content along with a promise for five plus years of support beyond the game’s release. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to Dying Light fans who will have seen the sheer volume of support the original game has received over the years, but the news is comforting for gamers nonetheless. It is also exciting to get a first look at the content fans can expect over the next year.

Of the five pieces of content that have been revealed for four months after Dying Light 2’s release, it looks as though there’s a heavy emphasis on gameplay and story. There are two sets of challenges, one event, a story DLC, and one drop of factions-inspired free cosmetics. These will be shared across the months between February and June, although what happens from then isn’t entirely clear at this point. It is clear, however, that Dying Light 2 will receive support long after launch, which will come in the form of new stories, weapons, enemies, and events that should keep fans entertained.

Dying Light 2 Story DLC

While Dying Light 2’s promise of five years worth of content is a promising sign, fans may be wary of too much cosmetic DLC. It looks as though Dying Light 2 will receive a cosmetic DLC within the first month of its launch, which may go down well with fans. However, in a few years’ time, fans will be hoping that the story DLCs don’t halt entirely in favor of cosmetics. Early signs are that the emphasis is on story and gameplay where content drops are concerned, although this is only confirmed to be the approach for the first few months after release.

While cosmetic DLCs can be a great way to get fans back in a game for a short while, many may be hoping for more meaningful content expansions from Dying Light 2’s five-year promise. Dying Light 2 should put an emphasis on story DLCs rather than cosmetics if its hope is to remain popular for the entirety of the five years following its release. Story DLCs are true expansions to the game, and given that Dying Light 2 is a story-based game, cosmetics can only do so much to keep fans playing. What is really needed to keep fans coming back to Dying Light 2 is story expansions.
