There is no shortage of sad stories in Dying Light 2. And that is appropriate. It is a zombie apocalypse after all and too many happy stories would make the reality of the situation unbelievable. There is a balance in play here and these tragic stories help create a sense of immersion.
However, there does have to be a healthy limit. Too much tragedy and Aiden no longer feels heroic or meaningful. Players want to make a difference in Dying Light 2 and while the story of Damien is unfortunate regardless of what happens, gamers have a narrow opportunity to limit the sorrow.
Accepting His Mission
- Choose: "Cooperate with Damien."
After accepting Damien's side job, things will go south quickly. Aiden is attacked and players might need the help of some of the best combat abilities to survive. It turns out Damien has been luring people to their deaths in exchange for a gang's willingness to keep his brother, Cliff, alive.
If players turn Damien in to Carl, the mission ends right away and Damien is lethally punished for his crimes. Players should cooperate with Damien and help him find his brother if they want to see the whole chain through and keep him alive.
Talking Damien Down
- Select: "About Life?"
- Select: "I'll jump too!"
- Select: "Interrupt Damien."
After finding Damien's brother, everything goes south. It turns out Cliff was working with the gang the entire time and using Damien's love to send him more victims. Aiden is forced to kill Cliff and save himself, looting the posse for some quick cash. Damien then realizes that he's been killing innocent people for the greed of his brother who never cared about him.
As gamers might imagine, this causes Damien to spiral downward. He climbs the tower in the Bazaar and players will need to climb up to get to him. After getting to the roof, head inside and use the various objects for some free and easy parkour experience points.
Players need to choose the correct three dialogues to keep Damien from jumping. For the first choice, players need to talk to Damien about life in general, since asking him not to jump only makes him more resolute and discussing his brother is too painful for him to deal with.
Next, Aiden can give Damien the message from his brother, but the message is hurtful and only pushes him further. If Aiden threatens to jump with him, then Damien will see this as another death on his hands and refuse to take his own life.
It's not over yet. Carl comes into the room and demands to know what's going on. Damien will confess to everything and be executed by Carl unless players interrupt him. This option, unlike the others, only gives players three seconds to choose, so be ready for the conversation wheel when it pops up.
