Techland has finally opened up about the development of Dying Light 2. It has been some time since a big update from the developer, and fans feared that Dying Light 2 was in stuck in development hell, which Techland has denied. In a recent interview, the Polish developer shared details about the game's progress; including aspects of how the open world will work, what encounters will look like, and how Dying Light 2 will perform.

Techland confirmed that Dying Light 2 will not be next-gen only, meaning the game is headed to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. This can be seen as both a positive and a negative. On the bright side, more players will be able to enjoy the game. However, Techland will likely not be able to take full advantage of next-gen technology if it is also trying to make the game playable on the PS4 and Xbox One. With that in mind, Techland did discuss a "performance" mode for next-generation consoles.

During an interview with WCCFTech, the Techland team was asked about a "performance" mode option for the PS5 and Xbox Series X specifically, which is becoming standard in modern gaming. Rendering Director Tomasz Szalkowski said yes, Dying Light 2 will have a quality mode and a performance mode. The quality mode will include things like Ray Tracing and the performance mode would have a target frame rate of 60 FPS while shooting for 4K resolution. Beyond that, Szalkowski did not feel like they could share much else on the topic at this time.

Everything from the interview with WCCFTech makes Dying Light 2 and the plans that Techland has put together seem rather solid. However, there's no telling if this adds more credence to or contradicts previous reports that Techland fosters a toxic workplace.

There is a concern that Techland will not be able to deliver on all of its promises with Dying Light 2. With the in-house development issue rumors, months of silence, multiple delays, and more, many fear the developer bit off more than it could chew, and that the final product would either never come or it would be a jumbled mess. This new interview has helped some feel more confident about the game, however. Over 18 million players enjoyed the original Dying Light, so there are plenty of people counting on this next Dying Light to be great as well.

Dying Light 2 is scheduled to release in 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
