After finding success with the frequently-delayed Dead Island, Techland went on to make Dying Light, which was praised for its mix of zombie-filled open world action and parkour. There's some hype behind Dying Light 2 as a result, and horror game fans are excited to get their hands on the new game, especially after an extremely impressive showing at E3 2019. From what we've seen of it so far, Dying Light 2 looks to be an improvement over the original game in virtually every way, and it will also provide nearly double the amount of content as the first game to boot.

This is according to Dying Light 2 lead game designer Tymon Smektala, who recently spoke to Prankster101 Productions. Smektala was asked in the interview about how long it will take players to beat Dying Light 2, and he revealed that completing the main story missions will take about 15 to 20 hours. However, if players are looking to fully complete the game, they are looking at a staggering 100 hours. This would be double the roughly 50 hours it took on average for players to 100% the first Dying Light game, according to play time aggregate site How Long to Beat.

Something else to take into account is that while 15 to 20 hours may be the average time it will take someone to complete Dying Light 2's story, there are many factors that will impact that playtime. As Smektala points out, there are many different things that can happen in open world games when players are traveling from A to B that can extend playtime, whether it be players wandering off to explore a new area or spending time killing zombie hordes. One's skill level is also sure to play a significant role in how quickly it takes someone to complete the Dying Light 2 main story.

Another reason why fully completing Dying Light 2 will take such a long time is due to the game's choice-based narrative. It's been said in the past that players can only see half of Dying Light 2 in their first playthrough due to the way their choices can change the course of the story. This will only serve to bolster the game's replay value, assuming the choices are as meaningful as the developers have implied.

Based on what we know about Dying Light 2, there seems to be a lot of reasons to be excited about the open world, parkour zombie game. Whether or not it lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but we'll find out early next year.

Dying Light 2 launches in 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
