Dying Light 2 has been a hotly anticipated game ever since it was first revealed at Microsoft's E3 2018 press conference. Unfortunately for fans, there have been numerous delays pushing the Dying Light 2 release date back, and there have been reports that the game is experiencing a rather troubled development cycle. There's been very little news about Dying Light since the reveal trailer, but things have been ramping up and it's expected that the game will still launch at some point later this year.

Recently, Dying Light 2 Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektala spoke with WCCFTech to discuss various aspects of the game in one of the most revealing interviews to date. The interview touched on Dying Light 2's open world and how much content fans will be able to expect from the final release. According to Tymon, players rushing through the story will be able to beat the game in about 20 hours, but those who go for 100% completion are looking at more like 40 to 60 hours of gameplay.

The opening area in Dying Light 2 will apparently take seven to eight hours of playtime by itself if players completely explore it. From the sounds of it, Dying Light 2 should be a fairly substantial game and players should get plenty of bang for their buck. Exactly how many side quests there are in Dying Light 2 and other activities wasn't revealed, but fans should find out more on that front later this year.

Unfortunately, it's unclear exactly when more Dying Light 2 footage will be revealed to the public. The developers released some fresh Dying Light 2 gameplay last month, while also taking the time to poke fun at impatient gamers who have been hounding the development team for updates. This prompted an amusing response from Dead Island 2, another open world zombie game that has been notoriously trapped in development hell.

That's not to say that Dying Light 2 is actually in development hell. While that is the public perception, some of the developers have pushed back against that claim, insisting that progress has been made on Dying Light 2 regularly throughout its development.

Dying Light 2 updates have been more regular since the start of this year, and this recent interview with WCCFTech is one of the more eye-opening reveals the game has enjoyed since its initial reveal trailer. Hopefully this is a sign that zombie fans can look forward to plenty more Dying Light 2 reveals sooner rather than later.

Dying Light 2 is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
