Techland's Dying Light 2 had an impressive launch, selling over 5 million copies in February alone. Part of what drove excitement for the sequel was undoubtedly Techland's dedication to supporting the original Dying Light with post-launch content. While it remains accurate that Techland has substantial plans for Dying Light 2 DLC, it's now confirmed that a major part of it is being delayed. Dying Light 2's first story DLC, previously planned to arrive in June, has been pushed back to later this year.In a message shared on Twitter, Techland confirmed to Dying Light 2 players that the game's planned DLC release for June was being delayed. Techland states that it's a priority for the studio to be "honest and transparent" with players, and with that in mind Techland says that it's unable to deliver the DLC on-schedule. "We still need a bit more time" is how Techland characterizes the need for the delay.The delay isn't extreme, by any means, but it's not slight, either. Dying Light 2 players can now expect the game's first story DLC to arrive in September instead of June. It will be delivered three months later than expected. Techland also apologized for the delay and asks Dying Light players to look forward to other updates arriving between now and September that should make the wait less of an issue.
Dying Light 2's story DLC may have been delayed, but it's still planning to deliver a variety of new content between June and August. To start, Techland will begin delivering Chapters of content, which are akin to Seasons for other live-service titles. The first Dying Light 2 Chapter is named "In the Footsteps of a Nightrunner." It'll include features like Photo Mode, new community events, additional missions, enemies, rewards, and an expansion of the Agent and Rank System. Expect more details on Chapter 1 when it nears.
While the delay of Dying Light 2's story DLC is disappointing, it's clear that Techland is more than keeping its promise to robustly support the game post-launch. It's already delivered content including a New Game + mode, as well as mutants and booster events. Chapter 1 will simply continue that trend.
The future is also bright for Dying Light 2, even with the delay. Chapter 2 will arrive with the first story DLC between September and November. Then there's additional story DLC and other free and premium DLCs beyond that, too. Techland continues to pitch the idea of 5 years of post-launch support to Dying Light 2.
Dying Light 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with plans to arrive on Switch later this year.
