Techland, the studio working on Dying Light 2, recently saw one of its employees leave the company. Despite the departure of writer and art director Paweł Selinger, Techland recently made it clear that the game's development is still going quite well.

After Selinger announced he was leaving Techland following a 22-year career, some in the gaming community claimed it was another problem in the development of Dying Light 2. However, the media relations team recently said Techland already filled Selinger's role on the project, and therefore the work on the game is moving forward without a hitch.

"We would like to reassure all fans of the upcoming Dying Light 2 that the position of Art Director is not threatened and has been held by Eric Cochonneau since November 2019," Techland said in a statement. The PR executive added that Cochonneau had taken care of every aspect of the upcoming title's development for the last few years. The company's representative also said it had the utmost confidence in Cochonneau when it came to putting out a product Techland could be proud of at launch.

Techland added that Selinger's departure wasn't nearly as abrupt as some in the gaming community came to believe. His announcement on LinkedIn was apparently just the last step. The company said its former employee had been handing off tasks he'd been working on in the development of Dying Light 2 over the previous few weeks. The company also shed light on the fact that Selinger, who worked as the narration designer for the last two years, decided towards the end of 2020 that it was time to move on. Because of that decision, his duties with the narrative department were taken over by Piotr Szymanek in October.

The details on the inner workings of the company by Techland were unusually specific partly because the company wanted to assuage fears that the development of Dying Light 2 was facing even more problems. Some in the gaming community thought an employee departing could be the signal of something deeper going wrong. The developer made efforts to make it clear that the firm knew about the departure for long enough that it planned accordingly and made sure people were there to step in to take over the work.

Late last month, Techland took similar steps to make it clear the company was still working on Dying Light 2 by promising new information early on in 2021. Representatives posted that particular bit of news on their social media channels. While Techland didn't offer any further info beyond that, it did reiterate it in their recent statements regarding the departure. The company said it would provide more information "soon."

Dying Light 2 is currently in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
