Dying Light 2, the forthcoming zombie game from developer Techland, has been delayed, continuing the recent string of games being pushed further into 2020 and beyond. Previously, Dying Light 2 was expected to release in the Spring of 2020. Techland didn't announce any new release window for the game, so it may be some time before its ready to go.

In a statement on Twitter, Techland thanked the community for its continued support of Dying Light 2 but had little in the way of other updates on the project. "We were initially aiming for a Spring 2020 release with Dying Light 2, but unfortunately we need more development time to fulfill our vision," Techland wrote, "We will have more to share in the coming months, and will get back to you as soon as we have more information."

Just recently, Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed to September, and Dying Light 2's delay just adds to the pile. With a PS5 reveal event just on the horizon and new consoles releasing at the end of the year, it raises the question of if these delays could be gearing up for next-gen ports.

Fans had seen relatively little of Dying Light 2 leading up to the delay, which may indicate rough development. Late last year, there was an extensive Dying Light 2 4K gameplay video released that gave fans their best look at the game to date, but there hasn't been much since.

Dying Light 2 is one of the most anticipated horror games of 2020, so its delay is pretty disappointing. Delays aren't really a bad thing, though, as the project will definitely benefit from added development time. With any luck, the game will still launch in 2020, though it's possible that the delay is more significant, and could result in the game being pushed to next year.

Oddly enough, Dead Island 2, another major zombie game, has also been stuck in development hell. Koch Media has reassured fans the Dead Island 2 isn't canceled, but almost nothing has been seen or heard about the game since its reveal back in 2014. Hopefully, Dying Light 2 has a better fate.

Dying Light 2 is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
