Dying Light 2 is set to launch on February 4 and many fans of the series cannot wait to get their hands on the anticipated sequel. Inevitably as with nearly all hard copy games, some fans secured the game early, likely as a result of retailers selling copies of Dying Light 2 before the release date.

Techland, the developer of Dying Light 2, has encouraged these players to hold off on playing the game. The developer stated that there will be a day one patch for Dying Light 2 that will allow players to experience the game the way it was intended to be. Techland noted that it has added over a thousand fixes and improvements to the game in the weeks leading up to its release, which the game's day one patch is said to include when it goes live alongside Dying Light 2.

Techland gave a list of all the issues that the day one patch is said to fix. The list included fixes for dialogue that blocked story progression, fixes for various crashes, fixes for the bugs causing objects and AI to sink into the ground, fixes for the issues related to temporarily lowering the difficulty, and many others.

These issues are possibly what caused Techland to delay Dying Light 2 for the Nintendo Switch, but that has not been confirmed. Techland has stated that the Nintendo Switch cloud version of the game should release within 6 months of the other versions, as the company is committed to releasing a quality port. The fact that the Switch version will make use of cloud technology also likely played a role in the delay owing to it being uncharted waters for the developer.

Dying Light 2 is also said to release on PC with Denuvo DRM, this may take many fans by surprise as the software is notorious for affecting the performance of games. While many fans are against the software, Techland has stated that it was implemented as a means to stop the piracy issue that the original game was affected by.

Techland has said that Dying Light 2 will be supported for at least 5 years after its launch, and this sizable day one patch is the start of that support.

Dying Light 2 will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 4, 2022 with a Switch version also in development.
