Details regarding Dying Light 2, Techland's sequel to the 2015 open-world survival horror game, have been hard to come by. Despite having a tentative release window of 2021, Techland has only just started talking about Dying Light 2 in more detail. In March, devs asked fans to wait just a bit longer. While it may not be as big of a reveal as some fans hoped, there is some new Dying Light information out. A short clip showing Dying Light 2's day/night cycle was shared on Reddit -- though there may be something more to it.

The short clip, which runs just 10 seconds, was shared on Dying Light 2's social media on Thursday morning. The clip displays a very simple setting in Dying Light 2. There's a wall covered in graffiti, and the area is overgrown, with tall grass in front of the wall and ivy hanging over its top. What's most important about the short video is that it begins in daylight, loops into the night, and then sees the dawn rise at the end. It's 24 hours spanning the course of a 10-second clip.

While the clip is focused on a day/night cycle in Dying Light 2's open world, it's not a showcase of the game's lighting and shadows, unfortunately. While the lighting does change, shadows don't shift with the time of the day. The environment simply turns somewhat orange, then gets dark, followed by the scene getting brighter with the sun rising. It's a confirmation of a feature, rather than a technological showcase.

There is one event worth calling attention that happens mid-video, however. In the middle of the night, lights overhanging the wall flash on and off. In doing so, a single word is revealed, as if it was written in UV ink only to be revealed by dark light. The word is "are," nothing more and nothing less. And while a single word, a verb without an object, doesn't explicitly reveal anything, it does hint at something. This Dying Light 2 clip is a teaser and Techland is hinting at something more.

"Are" is likely just the first word in a message that Techland will fully share over the days or weeks to come. Perhaps it'll be "Are You Ready?" or or something like "Beware." Regardless of the message itself, Dying Light fans are going to be hopeful it leads to a release date announcement.

That Techland is sharing this message with just weeks until E3 2021 and other June gaming events begin probably isn't a coincidence. Techland partnered with Square Enix for Dying Light 2's distribution and marketing in the USA, so the game could show up anywhere Square Enix is. Or Techland could present Dying Light 2 on its own. Needless to say, Dying Light fans have a lot to look forward to in the weeks ahead.

Dying Light 2 releases in 2021 on  PC, PS4, Ps5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
