It has been over one year since Techland officially announced Dying Light 2 at E3 2018, and the developer has been sharing light details about the game ever since. Recently, for example, Techland indicated that players will only see 50% of Dying Light 2 during their first playthrough, and now the company has offered some additional information on the possibility of a cross-generation release for Dying Light 2.

More specifically, Techland has confirmed that Dying Light 2 will be a cross-gen release, which suggests that this highly anticipated survival horror game will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One as well as the forthcoming PS5 and next Xbox consoles. Furthermore, Pawel Rohleder, chief technical officer at Techland, has indicated that the decision to bring Dying Light 2 to next-gen platforms is not a new one, stating, "the plan since the beginning of production has been to make Dying Light 2 a cross-generation title."

At E3 2019, it was revealed that Dying Light 2 will release in spring 2020, and thus fans do not have too much longer to wait before they get to dive back into Techland's take on the zombie apocalypse. However, it will obviously not be the PS5 and next Xbox versions of Dying Light 2 releasing during this time frame, as the launch dates for those consoles are still quite a ways off.

Indeed, it has been stated that the next Xbox will release holiday 2020, and many expect that Sony will target a similar release window for its new console. As such, fans that wish to play Dying Light 2 on more advanced home console hardware, or what Rohleder describes as "the latest new toys," should not expect its release to come before the end of next year at the very earliest.

That said, with Dying Light 2 being designed to support multiple playthroughs, some fans will definitely choose to double dip and buy the game for both current and next-gen consoles. Certainly, many players are very excited for the Dying Light 2 release date to arrive, and the opportunity to play the game across hardware generations should keep these fans slaying zombies for the quite some time.
