Dying Light 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the parkour zombie game that surprised many back in 2015, has been in development for some time now. Having not really been shown in any form since E3 2019, many have been asking if Dying Light 2 will ever be shown again. However, a new leaked image suggests the game might be released sooner than anyone might think.

The development of Dying Light 2 has hit more than a few roadblocks. According to reports, narrative director Chris Avellone was battling for creative control with creative director Adrian Ciszewski, which slowed development. Worse still, a slew of sexual harassment allegations directed against Avellone led to developer Techland cutting ties in 2020. All of this seemingly derailed Dying Light 2’s development, and the game was delayed “indefinitely.”

It seems “indefinitely” might turn into “later this year” according to a new leaked image. While Techland has promised an update on Dying Light 2 in 2021, this newly leaked image of a Collector’s Edition for the game suggests that Techland could be preparing for a release this year. The image was posted as part of a listing on Czech retailer Xzone, but it appears to have since been taken down.

The Collector’s Edition includes UV stickers and a UV flashlight, a steelbook, an art book, a Secret Location’s map, postcards, and a large statue of protagonist Kyle Crane parkouring up a light post away from a zombie; all packaged in a “collector’s box.” The listing mentions that a Deluxe Edition is included in the Collector’s Edition, so one could assume that the Deluxe Edition may include some DLC, like Resident Evil 8’s recently announced Deluxe Edition.

Traditionally, Collector’s Editions and the images to promote their contents aren’t assembled until later in a game’s development, and they are announced within a few months of a game’s final release date, barring any last-minute delays. With that general knowledge, it stands to reason that Dying Light 2 could very well come out in 2021. Given the usual space between Collector’s Edition announcements and release dates, Dying Light 2 may be planned for an early fall release.

All of this is speculation, however, so fans should take this image with a grain of salt and not expect Techland to comment on the leak or announce the game anytime soon. After all, Dying Light 2 seems to be in active development, according to Techland about two weeks ago. Still, this image looks legitimate, and there are still 11 months left in 2021, so anything is possible.

Dying Light 2 is currently in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
