Techland's Dying Light 2 was originally going to release in spring 2020 before it was delayed in January without a concrete release window to give the developers more time "to fulfill our vision." Since then, various rumors have come out saying the zombie-based horror RPG has been delayed for so long because of a troubled development, but now it seems the game may be close to seeing an announcement thanks to outside marketing promotions.

The promoting brand in question is Taiwanese electronics hardware manufacturer ASUS, which began a new deal running from July 1 to August 31, 2020 allowing anyone to get a free copy of both Dying Light and Dying Light 2 if they buy an eligible product, including a variety of motherboards, computer monitors, cooling units, and more. In order to redeem the code for these games, prospective buyers will have to act between July 15 and September 13, 2020, which suggests the upcoming game will have to be given its release date sometime before that ends.

Of course, this promotion could be an evergreen deal that will make the game accessible whenever it releases, but it would seem odd for the offer to begin now if there are no plans to capitalize on it with an announcement. The Polish game studio has refuted claims about Dying Light 2's troubled development, and given that it would seem fair to expect the new release date will not be insanely far off its original window.

Despite the delay of its sequel, the original Dying Light has continued to see support. New DLC called Dying Light: Hellraid will be available July 23 for players on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, throwing players into the world of a medieval fantasy arcade cabinet to fight off demon skeletons.

Questions about Dying Light 2's developmental problems are not the only things that have plagued Techland as of late. The company recently cut ties with developer Chris Avellone after multiple sexual assault allegations were levied against him by different employees claiming he took advantage of them while drunk.

This is just one of many cases of sexual misconduct being reported and investigated by the video game industry in high volume over the last few weeks by companies like EA and Ubisoft, as well as fan communities for games like Super Smash Bros. Whether or not that comes to affect the development and eventual release window for Dying Light 2 will have to be seen whenever Techland is ready to make its official announcement.
