Warner Bros.' newest cinematic venture Black Adam will make its long-awaited theatrical landing this month with Dwayne Johnson starring as the emblematic misunderstood anti-hero. Naturally, audiences have unapologetically clamored to see the new theatrical DC figure face off against Henry Cavill's Superman, a sentiment Johnson appears to share in recent statements.

Black Adam will center around the titular god-like character and his vengeful exploits in the modern world after 5,000 years of imprisonment. Black Adam's form of justice, derived from internalized rage, is denounced by the Justice Society of America, which includes notable heroes Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone. With Black Adam being the most powerful being on the planet, the challenge will be stiff unless something more powerful enters to protest his actions.

During an interview with Jake's Takes, Johnson hints at the possibility of something more powerful arising in the form of the illustrious Kryptonian, Superman. When asked about a potential showdown between Black Adam and Superman, Johnson indicated that his vision of the scene was crystal clear and that throughout the process of creating Black Adam, he has been very aware of what audiences desire. "Listening to the fans, when I was wrestling, always led and guided me, just like now," he said.

Johnson continued by highlighting the ten-year process to bring the highly-anticipated project to life, and the role audiences equally played in the film's exciting events. "As I was pushing Black Adam up this hill to get made, for the past five, six, seven years, I was also listening to the fans at the same time, where you have Black Adam -- we would create Black Adam for him to be the most powerful and unstoppable force on this planet," expressed the Black Adam star. "The most powerful and unstoppable force in the entire universe has been on the sidelines for too long."

One can speculate that the "most unstoppable force" in the "universe" is undeniably Superman, but nothing in the realm of certainty has risen to the surface. Johnson's teases, however, add more fuel to the fire of excitement for Black Adam and the eagerness audiences have to see Henry Cavill's Superman return to the screen. Zack Snyder's Man of Steel stands as Cavill's only solo venture as the Kryptonian, with his last appearance being in Zack Snyder's Justice League. Johnson's hint, however, is not the first time Warner Bros. has teased a stand-off between Black Adam and Superman. Black Adam briefly appeared in a post-credits scene for the animated film DC League of Super-Pets, which further brewed excitement for what could potentially come.

Alongside Johnson, Black Adam will feature performances from Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell, Pierce Brosnan, and Viola Davis. Audiences will, unfortunately, have to wait until the film's release to see if Cavill will make his long-awaited return to the Superman role or if Johnson's teases are just a strategic promotional method to get audiences into theaters to experience the Warner Bros. film. Nevertheless, the excitement for Black Adam is evident, and it will be interesting to see how the film is received once the doors of the movie are finally open.

Black Adam will hit theaters October 21, 2022.
