Earlier today, Dungeons & Dragons released a whole set of different feats for playtesting, ranging from martial-combat and spellcasting-oriented to one feat that allows characters to craft an especially tasty meal. The feats are part of the latest release of Dungeons & DragonsUnearthed Arcana.

Every month or so, Wizards of the Coast will release a new issue of Unearthed Arcana for players to test out in their own games at home; it's unofficial content, but usable nonetheless. Essentially, it's material that hasn't been refined by final game design yet, but could be in the future, and this month's issue consists of sixteen character feats.

Player feats are an important part of leveling up; they can be taken in place of ability score improvements and provide the character who takes them with extra skills or proficiencies. In this Unearthed Arcana, one of the more unique feats is the "Chef" feat, which allows the character who takes it to cook special meals that imbue the party with additional hit points upon using it hie during a short rest. Players can dip into a Warlock's skill set without actually being one by using the Eldritch Adept feat, or gain proficiency in firearms with the "Gunner" feat. There are even feats that allow players to be "touched" by either the Feywild or Shadowfell; "Fey Touched" grants the Misty Step spell and one enchantment or divination spell, while "Shadow Touched" grants Darkness and one illusion or necromancy spell.

Furthermore, there are feats for martial characters who typically deal a specific type of damage; "Crusher," "Piercer," and "Slasher" are all feats that allow the corresponding type of damage to do a little extra to enemies, which is always useful for those who use weaponry over spells. Another feat allows players to borrow from the Artificer class (introduced to 5th edition D&D in the last Eberron sourcebook) without taking a full level in that class.

All in all, this release of Unearthed Arcana has quite a few promising feats for players to try out, including some that could make for interesting roleplaying opportunities.
