The Dungeons and Dragons universe is filled with multiple dimensions, including worlds from Magic: The Gathering's card game sets. After the successful release of previous sourcebooks, the developers are moving to expand the multiverse further. Dungeons and Dragons has announced a new Magic: The Gathering sourcebook introducing players to a college of magic and chaos.

Similar to Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering has a large library of dimensions. Rotating sets of the popular card game often change worlds and take fans into the infinite multiverse of the Planeswalkers. In a recent set, Magic: The Gathering introduced Strixhaven and taught fans a new definition for spellcasting within the game's lore.

The announcement was made shortly after a leak on Amazon revealed the next Dungeons and Dragons adventure. In the sourcebook, players will be able to visit Strixhaven and explore the prestigious magical university in a fantasy world. The university consists of five distinct colleges, each focused on a particular style of magic. While there is competition among the rival colleges, they are all striving to master the magic arts in their unique ways.

This book follows the release of Theros and Ravnica's sourcebooks, and is striving to appeal to both Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering fans. When asked for comment, Dungeons and Dragons's Senior Communications Manager, Greg Tito, said that "The D&D guidebooks around Ravnica, and Theros have done amazingly well, and we thought that the Strixhaven storyline would appeal not only to fans of Magic and fans of D&D, but [also a] younger audience."

Players will be able to interact with the five colleges within Strixhaven throughout their game. The colleges consist of Lorehold, Prismari, Quandrix, Silverquil, and Witherblood, and each is associated with a combination of colors from Magic: The Gathering. While the set was paired into dual colors, it did not water down the core of what each color represents in the grander scheme of the Magic: The Gathering universe.

What is inside the sourcebook is still unknown, but an Unearthed Arcana playtest release is scheduled for June 8. This material tends to precede an official announcement, and many fans expect to see parts of Strixhaven packed into the informational release. Tito explains that "we thought Strixhaven would be perfect for dramatizing that in a D&D game," when asked about the reason they chose Strixhaven. The team behind the book is fairly transparent with Strixhaven as they hope to use player feedback to perfect the popular setting.

Titled Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos, the Dungeons and Dragons sourcebook is scheduled for release on November 16, 2021. More information is set to be revealed at Dungeons and Dragons Live 2021, and the developers will continue to share information as it grows closer to release. Until then, Dungeons and Dragons fans can explore the recently released Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft or travel to the Magic: The Gathering planes of Theros or Ravinca for some magic-themed adventure campaigns.
