Dungeons and Dragons is having a big week. In addition to the ongoing DnD Live 2020 events that are taking place and bringing celebrities together to play, Wizards of the Coast is also dropping a ton of details on upcoming products for the "world's greatest roleplaying game." During the event, the game's next major adventure was confirmed: Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. This new book is horror-themed and will take adventuring parties to the frigid north for a terrifying trial of survival and paranoia.
The Icewind Dale setting doesn't come as a big surprise for many players after last week's leak and a handful of hints that were dropped over the last half year, but it is still very exciting. The book releases in September and collectors who have an impressive bookshelf full of Dungeons and Dragons hardcovers will likely already be thinking about the alternative art covers that have become standard in 5e. There is once again a game shop exclusive cover and it is one of the coolest ones yet.
The alternate art cover for Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden releases on September 15, along with the regular book, but will only be available directly from game shops. Keep in mind that many game shops only get a limited number of these special covers, so players should contact their local game store early and find out what sort of pre-order or lottery system they have for holding the special alternate covers. Although the alternate cover will likely be getting a lot of the attention from collectors, the regular cover for the book is very gorgeous, as well.
