Dungeons and Dragons players who have shifted their games to a digital format in the age of social distancing are at least equipped with a powerful tool like DnD Beyond to help keep the game running smoothly. In addition to offering a very easy-to-use character builder for managing player sheets and an in-progress encounter building to help DMs track combat, the tool recently also started offering digital dice to allow players to customize the look of their rolls at the digital table.

As players might expect, the basic set of digital dice is free and and extras are usually microtransactions or rewards for certain purchases. The recently revealed Icewind Dale dice, for example, can be unlocked by pre-ordering the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons adventure book on DnD Beyond. The latest dice to be revealed are very cool looking, perfect for a healer or alchemist, and cannot be purchased through the usual Marketplace on DnD Beyond.

Instead, the Dice of Healing can only be unlocked by having an active subscription to DnD Beyond during the month of August. This is part of the three year anniversary DnD Beyond event for the online service and the dice are meant to be a special reward for subscribers (and also some nice motivation for free-to-play users to bump up to the subscriber level for a month...

For those who are unaware, most players don't have much of a reason to become a paying subscriber and it's often the dungeon master who foots the bill as a Master Tier subscriber for the group. On the free-to-play level, players are still able to make and manage a limited number of character sheets and, if their DM has content sharing enabled, they're also still able to read any sourcebooks that the DM has purchased in their own collection. Technically, it doesn't even have to be the DM to turn on content sharing, players just need someone in the group who owns some materials to turn the sharing on and then everyone in the party (up to a certain limit) can read the materials and access the items.

There are going to be a lot of other details about Icewind Dale and other upcoming D&D products dropping throughout the rest of the summer and early fall, so be sure to stay tuned and check back for additional news. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Dungeons and Dragons news, updates, and strategy guides. Until then, roll well, adventurers!
