Although tabletop RPGs used to always require players to meet up in-person and physically roll some dice, software like Skype, Discord, Roll20, and Dungeons & Dragons Beyond now make it much easier to game from a distance. Thanks to the help of some of these distance gaming tools, even a brain aneurysm couldn't keep this D&D player from the table.

Tony plays a level 5 human warlock named Veras, who is unfortunately currently cursed and stuck in the form of a snake. His group had a serious scare recently when Tony had an aneurysm burst in the anterior, cerebral part of his brain, and suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Luckily, Tony's doctor's were able to come up with a treatment plan, including surgery, and get him on the road to recovery.

While recovering from his surgery in the intensive care unit, Tony was feeling well enough to call in for his Sunday night D&D session and continue exploring the The hidden shrine of Tamoachan. That's some serious dedication, right?

Game Rant was able to speak with one of Tony's party members, and unfortunately it sounds like Veras is still stuck in the form of a snake at the time we're writing this. It sounds like his DM has no mercy.

If you want to check out Tony's progress, you can visit his GoFundMe page where he's collecting donations to help with the medical costs and posting updates about his recovery. Maybe if enough of us ask he'll even start posting updates about Veras' curse recovery, as well...

Dungeons & Dragons is available in print and is also available digitally through Dungeons & Dragons Beyond.
