Dungeons and Dragons players around the world have had to transition to Discord and Zoom-based gaming sessions over the last four months or so and many players have found creative ways to keep their campaigns going without getting together in person to roll dice and role play. Video conferencing tools have helped make the transition to remote D&D a lot easier, but another major tool that has aided many dungeon masters and players is DnD Beyond.

The digital toolbox for 5e Dungeons and Dragons offers players an online spot to manage their character sheets, encounters, and read up on all the source material (assuming they are willing to purchase it digitally or have a dungeon master with content sharing enabled). Although some players will always prefer to physically roll dice for their attacks, saves, checks, and damage; DnD Beyond recently released a new feature that allows any roll to happen with the simple click of a button on the character sheet. Obviously, this means there's a whole new world of dice skin purchases that players can make to customize the effect that comes along with their rolls.

The tool offers a free set of basic dice, so purchasing the different styles and skins is definitely optional and solely an aesthetic change (don't expect more critical hits on purchased dice or anything like that). The first wave of offerings included a colorful pigment pack and some very stylized Magic: The Gathering Theros-themed dice. The next set is now available and it is going to be very tempting for players who like a nice weighty die roll...

The Blacksmith's Set of dice offers eight variations in color and each one can be purchased individually or players can pick up the whole set for just under $8. They are a bit basic compared to the highly-designed Theros dice, but it's a nice change of pace and seems like the perfect pick for anyone who is playing a character that might be a blacksmith or some other kind of crafter.

"The pack includes 8 digital dice sets forged from Bronze, Copper, Damascus Steel, Electrum, Gold, Iron, Platinum, and Silver. Save 50% by purchasing them all as a pack. Any individual set you purchase from the pack will apply a credit to the full pack if you choose to complete your collection in the future. These dice were handcrafted by blacksmiths from the highest quality 64-bit metals so you can feel the weight of your rolls. Let your characters shine with one or more of these digital dice sets."

In the coming months, it will be interesting to see what other dice sets DnD Beyond releases (in addition to the recent Icewind Dale set). The developers are still taking requests and gathering feedback on the forums, so it seems like there will be plenty of other options as this corner of the store continues to expand.

There are going to be a lot of other details about Icewind Dale and other upcoming D&D products dropping throughout the rest of the summer and early fall, so be sure to stay tuned and check back for additional news. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Dungeons and Dragons news, updates, and strategy guides. Until then, roll well, adventurers!

Dungeons and Dragons: Icewind Dale Rime of the Frostmaiden releases everywhere on September 15, 2020. Existing Dungeons and Dragons products are available now at game stores or digitally through DnD Beyond.
