Dungeons and Dragons has experienced a massive swell in popularity recently, in no small part due to actual play streams like Critical Role. Soon, fans of Dungeons and Dragons will be able to bring Critical Role to their tabletops in a different yet familiar way: the classic board game Clue.

Critical Role began as a simple livestream of famous voice actors who played Dungeons and Dragons on a weekly basis. Now, Critical Role has evolved into a full-fledged company complete with a charity foundation and a publisher called Darrington Press.

Darrington Press is teaming up with The Op Games and Hasbro to put out Clue: Critical Role. This new spin on the classic mystery game puts players in the shoes of the Mighty Nein–the heroes from Campaign 2 of Critical Role–as they are embroiled in a mysterious threat during the Harvest Close Festival in the city of Zadash. The game itself features gorgeous new art of the Mighty Nein drawn by illustrators and Critters Joric_Art and Shaun Ellis, and includes seven adorable hero tokens associated with each main character.

The OP Games, also known as USAopoly, is a board game publisher best known for its pop culture reskins of classic board games like Clue. Though its claim to fame is with releases of Monopoly, it has done special versions of dozens of board games, ranging from Codenames to Jenga. It has even worked with both D&D and Critical Role before–The OP Games released a Dungeons and Dragons–themed Monopoly, Clue, and Yahtzee in the past, and sells several Critical Role puzzles, a Rubik’s Cube, and a Munchkin expansion.

Critical Role fans across the globe were ecstatic to hear about Clue: Critical Role’s imminent release. Considering Clue is nearing its 75-year anniversary, it is no exaggeration to say that several generations grew up with the classic mystery game. Clue has inspired mystery-themed games for years, including Hearthstone's upcoming expansion, Murder at Castle Nathria. The charming, beloved cast of Campaign 2 are also a perfect pick for the board game, especially because of the running gag with Nott and Jester’s detective agency.

Unfortunately, Clue: Critical Role is only slated for release in the United States and Canada shops right now, much to the dismay of fans overseas. The board game does not currently have a release date, but it will likely drop within the next month or two. Hopefully Clue: Critical Role will make it to international shops not long after it ships to the US and Canada so Dungeons and Dragons fans across the globe can get their hands on it.
