A return to the Kingdom of Ehb is only a little more than a month a way with the release of Dungeon Siege 3. The collaboration of Square Enix and Obsidian Entertainment, this co-op RPG has been touting its seamless drop-in, drop-out multiplayer gameplay over the last couple of months, and today, Square Enix has released a new trailer so that gamers can see it in action.

But who exactly will players be controlling in Dungeon Siege 3? We previously introduced two of the four playable characters available, Lucas Montbarron and Katarina, which you can read about here. Square Enix has since released trailers for their companions, Anjali the Archon and Reinhart Manx. Anjali is a hybrid human-fire creature that has a two sets of attack options available to her:

Anjali is an Archon - a literal legend, come to life.  In the stories of old, archons were spirits of fire, who served the long-lost creator gods. However, Anjali was raised by those who were sympathetic to the plight of the Legion. As such, Anjali does not know how she came to this world, what happened to the others of her kind or the true extent of her awesome power.

Anjali is able to shift freely between her human form and an incarnation of pure elemental fire.  In human form, she fights with a staff or a spear, allowing her to fend off multiple attackers while leaping in and out of the fray. In her fiery incarnation, she can hurl bolts of flames at ranged targets, flood entire areas with heat and fire, or inflict searing wounds that injure her foes over time.

Anjali has many surprises for those who oppose her from both the martial to the mystical, but few strike terror into the hearts of her enemies like the summoning of her Fire Jackal.

We had the opportunity to play as Anjali during our preview at PAX East earlier this year, and found the control scheme and gameplay to be very similar to that of Raven Software’s Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. See her in action for yourself in the below clip:

Reinhart Manx will be playing the part of the powerful mage in this tale. Although, Reinhart is not your typical long-range spellcaster as he likes to get up close and personal:

Descended from a long line of Legion mages, Reinhart has spent most of his life at the Collegium, in the city of Stonebridge, immersed in the study and practice of magic. Reinhart is known for his unconventional thinking and innovative magical techniques.

A scholar of arcane magic, Reinhart warps the forces of creation and destruction to his will.  His Entropic magic can blast a wide area with life-extinguishing force, though it leaves him open to attack. It is perfect for destroying crowds of enemies, as long as he keeps them at a distance. His Dynamic magic is channeled through an arcane gauntlet and capacitor. It creates deadly currents of energy with a mere motion of his hand, allowing Reinhart to quickly incapacitate a single target at close range.

Reinhart is unlike any other magician before him.  Rather than avoid the front line of combat, he will often teleport directly into the fray to deliver massive uppercuts that hurl the enemy back.

See Reinhart unleash his magical fury in the following trailer:

Wondering how the four protagonists will take the action to their enemies while attempting to reform the 10th Legion and bring peace back to the Kingdom? As we noted in our preview, Dungeon Siege 3 will use an isometric camera so that players will be able to see the action from above, which will hopefully make combat easier to follow while playing local co-op. The multiplayer trailer gives a short glimpse of what you can expect:

Keep in mind that the release date of June 17, 2011, shown at the end of the video is for the European Union release. Gamers in North America will sadly have to wait until June 21, 2011, to join in on the action.

While the trailer only provides a small taste of the multiplayer, we here at Game Rant love a good co-op game and are excited by the potential of the gameplay based upon what we've seen so far between the video trailers and our previous hands-on time. Hopefully, the RPG elements will blend in nicely as well.

Dungeon Siege 3 releases on May 31, 2011, for Windows PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
