Dungeon Siege 3 Trailer Screens

The dungeon crawler PC franchise aptly known as Dungeon Siege makes its return this summer and finally hits consoles with its third iteration, Dungeon Siege III. The hard facts of the game's story still remain a mystery, but the trailer below will shed some small light into the details.

It's standard fantasy fare, so anyone familiar with games like Fable or Dragon Age should feel right at home.

A kingdom founded by the virtuous warriors known as the 10th Legion has seen the death of the king, and the people of the land have turned against them.

It's up to you as one of the surviving members of the 10th Legion to bring return the land to its former glory:

The trailer is a bit light on the gameplay mechanics and actual settings, but the the isometric view that gamers have grown accustomed to through this kind of genre is on full display. The trailer also promises a healthy amount of action in the form of monster killing, explosions, and magic- everything a good fantasy game needs.

Obsidian Entertainment, the makers of Fallout: New Vegas and Neverwinter Nights will have the franchise in their capable hands, and have the pedigree of both PC and console gaming to pull it off. Obsidian should have no problem adapting a dungeon-crawl RPG to consoles, especially with games like Deathspank that play similarly.

Aside from the trailer, have a look at the new screens to see what the graphics and setting of DS3 will be like:

Classic dungeon crawler games that pit man (or men) against hordes of monsters will always strike that soft spot in gamers who grew up playing games like Diablo or Neverwinter Nights. The formula of killing monsters and acquiring loot has lasted as long as it has simply because it works and with Dungeon Siege III being the first of the series to come to consoles, the success should continue.

With an addition of online drop in/drop out cooperative play, players will be arguing about who killed what and what loot they should be getting, which is always something to look forward to.

Dungeon Siege III will be releasing May 31, 2011 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
