Spice is an extremely important resource in Dune: Spice Wars, and players should set their sights on harvesting it very quickly after starting a game. In order to harvest spice, fans must first establish a refinery, and the way that is done may not be immediately obvious. For those players that are confused about how to build a refinery in Dune: Spice Wars, full details on the process can be found in this guide.

Dune: Spice Wars - How to Build a Refinery

The first step toward building a refinery is to locate a spice field, areas that are marked on the map with purple icons. Notably, players should see one of these icons immediately upon starting a game, and it is recommended that they send their first ornithopter toward it. While exploring the area in the vicinity of the spice field, the ornithopter should reveal a village, which RTS fans should target with their military units.

After a successful military campaign against the spice field-adjacent village, players should select the settlement and choose the "take control" option. For full clarity, this option is visualized as a flag on the right side of the village's information pane, and performing the action requires both water and authority. While taking control of a village is not instantaneous, it does occur quite quickly, and all of the requirements for building a refinery in this Dune video game will be fulfilled when it is done.

Indeed, players that select the controlled village should now find that they are able to construct buildings within it. To pursue this type of construction, fans of 4x games should click on the "+" under "Buildings" to bring up a menu showcasing all of the possible options. This menu is divided into three sections, and players that have the requisite resources can select the refinery from the economy section on the left side. Fans can then place the building on the map and wait for its construction to complete.

Once the refinery is finished, players will be able to deploy a harvester from the building. By default, these vehicles bring in 20 spice per cycle, and fans can increase their production by giving them crews. Players do need to be a bit careful with their harvester, though, as they can be destroyed by Dune's sandworms. The easiest way to avoid that outcome is to enable a harvester's auto-recall, though using that feature will decrease its spice yield by 5%.

Dune: Spice Wars is in early access on PC.
