Legendary Entertainment is sending Denis Villeneuve and his cast to Budapest, Hungary, so they can re-shoot key scenes for the 2020 adaptation of Dune. Warner Bros has slated a release date for December 18th, 2020, and it looks like the movie is on schedule.

Frank Herbert's 1965 classic, Dune, has left a lasting impression in the sci-fi community. The sandworms alone are an awe-inspiring concept, especially when a reader imagines what it would be like to cross a massive sand flat without alerting the vibration-sensitive creatures below. This year, movie-goers (and movie-streamers) will be treated to a whole new interpretation of Arrakis, known as "Dune."

There should be no concern over news of Dune reshooting. In the film industry, it's very common to factor in more time for corrections and refilming. Villeneuve clearly wanted to put a lot of care into this movie, even when he laid out the schedule for production in 2019. He took a year to design the sandworms, after all. If that's any indication, the eventual release is going to be lovingly crafted throughout.

The previous 1984 Dune movie is rated only 6.5 on IMDB, and critics said that although it was visually stunning, it was difficult to follow. The director, David Lynch, said he has "zero interest" in the new adaptation.

There is also a Dune game being developed by Funcom, but that's years away.

Dune, the first film in a two-part adaptation, is set to premiere in theaters on December 18th, 2020.
