For their adaptation of the classic Frank Herbert novel Dune, Warner Bros. is looking to ramp up the film's marketing push in preparation for its release in October. Dune was recently delayed three weeks from October 1st to October 22nd, and it has also been announced that the film will make its world premiere at the 77th Venice Film Festival. Now, in addition to the imminent release of a new trailer, Warner Bros. has revealed a collection of new character posters that will give Dune fans a closer look at how the star-studded cast will appear as Herbert's beloved characters.

Dune is a space opera concerning a planet known as Arrakis, where Melange, a vital commodity for space travel, can be manufactured, with Arrakis being the only planet where the resource is available. The numerous members of the Atreides family act as stewards over the planet, which is predominantly composed of harsh desert terrain. The story then challenges the Atreides family as different groups within an interstellar empire vie for control of the planet and, by extension, Melange.

The character posters released by Warner Bros. include images for Timothee Chalamet's Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson's Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac's Duke Leto, Zendaya's Chani, Aquaman star Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin's Gurney Halleck, Javier Bardem's Stilgar, and Stellan Skarsgård's Baron Harkonnen. In a unique fashion, the posters showcase a close-up of each character that allows moviegoers to be curious about who they are and what role they play in the story.

The film also stars Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sharon-Duncan Brewster, Chang Chen, Babs Olunsanmokun, and Charlotte Rampling, among others. The film is directed by Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote alongside Doctor Strange screenwriter Jon Spaihts and Forrest Gump writer Eric Roth. This adaptation of Dune is one that follows previous adaptations of the novel, as well as a series of attempts to adapt the source material that never got off the ground. Warner Bros. has planned a Dune sequel adapting the second half of the novel as well as a prequel series Dune: The Sisterhood for HBO Max.

Dune is one of the most anticipated films of 2021, and it comes at a time when moviegoers are returning to theaters and providing blockbusters such as A Quiet Place: Part IIFast & Furious 9, and Black Widow with fruitful opening weekend numbers. It is the hope of movie buffs everywhere that once Dune releases in theaters, moviegoers will be compelled to see it in great numbers.

Dune will release in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22nd, 2021.
