5 Beautiful Boy (2018)

Beautiful Boy 2018

Just like all types of relationships, the one between a father and a son can be challenging. Even more so when a drug addiction enters the picture and threatens to ruin everything the people affected built for themselves. Timothée Chalamet stars as the eighteen-year-old Nic who seemingly has it all and a glorious future ahead of him but is destroying himself by taking drugs. And his father, David (Steve Carrell), is there to witness his son's downfall, uncertain if he can do anything to stop it.

Inspired by real events, the movie doesn't spare its heroes and has them go through many emotional and difficult situations. Steve Carrell is best known for playing comedy roles but in Beautiful Boy, he proves once again he can pull of dramatic roles as well. As for Timothée Chalamet, he gives yet another balanced performance that even older actors could be envious of. The viewers understand where the characters are coming from, what they face, and as a result, it's easy to become invested in Nic's and David's life.

4 The King (2019)

The King 2019

Navigating a court full of intrigue as a young king is challenging even in days of peace, let alone when a war is looming. Timothée Chalamet's Hal learns this the hard way when he's crowned a king and has to figure out whom he can trust, if anybody. Another big challenge is the war that Hal (better known as Henry V) "inherited" after his late father.

The movie will intrigue everyone who enjoys historical dramas, especially if they're not familiar with Henry V and don't know details about his life. Timothée Chalamet is convincing as the new king whose personality gradually transforms as he rules longer. Unlike other movies taking place in the medieval times, The King doesn't portray this part of history as shiny and always beautiful. Other than Chalamet, the movie stars many familiar faces, such as Joel Edgerton, Lily-Rose Depp, and Robert Pattinson as the French Dauphin.

3 Lady Bird (2017)

Lady Bird 2017

Lady Bird isn't the last time Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan met in a movie as it happened once again two years later in Little Women. Lady Bird focuses on the life of the seventeen-year-old Christine who calls herself Lady Bird. Just like many young people, Lady Bird isn't so happy with her life and doesn't get along with her mom.

Lady Bird comes across as relatable since many viewers no doubt struggled with similar feelings and fears when they were the same age. Timothée Chalamet plays the part of Kyle, a boy whom Lady Bird starts dating. His realistic performance as well as strong chemistry with Ronan help turn Lady Bird into one of the indie darlings about growing up that no fan of this genre should miss out on watching.

Timothée Chalamet has proved several times that he's just at home in movies taking place in the modern days as in those focused on history. In Little Women, the story takes the viewers back into the past when women didn't have many rights and had to fight hard to build the type of life they wanted for themselves.

Even though the main focus lies on the four March sisters, portrayed by Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Eliza Scanlen and Florence Pugh, who are all different, Timothée Chalamet is also impossible to miss in the movie as his character Laurie's relationship with the sisters influences their lives. Laurie doesn't always make the best decisions but in the end, he still ultimately comes across as a kind person, one who respects the sisters' wishes.

1 Call Me By Your Name (2017)

Call Me By Your Name

With the rating of 7.9 on IMDb, Call Me By Your Name is Timothée Chalamet's best-rated movie (other than Dune) in which he plays a leading role. It takes place in the beautiful Italian countryside in the 1980s and focuses on the developing relationship between the seventeen-year-old Elio (Chalamet) and an older guy Oliver (Armie Hammer) who works for Elio's father as a research assistant.

Initially, it seems like nothing will happen between Elio and Oliver but the pull between them is undeniable, and they eventually begin a secret romance. Both Chalamet and Hammer help sell the romance and the movie is also visually beautiful. It's also more realistic than other romance movies since it shows that not every summer love has to lead to a happily-ever-after... in fact, sometimes even two people who care about each other can go their separate ways in the end.
