'Duke Nukem Forever' Multiplayer Details Revealed: 'Capture the Babe' Mode

Duke Nukem Forever Multiplayer Modes

Always known for its over-the-top antics, Duke Nukem Forever, the long awaited next entry in the fan-favorite series promises to be a solid entry on all fronts - including multiplayer. While many first person shooters boast multiplayer modes like Deathmatch and Capture the Flag, Forever, in typical Duke Nukem style, will feature modes entitled Dukematch and Capture the Babe.

Though they won’t distinguish themselves from other multiplayer offerings in general rules and goals, Dukematch, Team Dukematch, Capture the Babe, and Hail to the King, will use the series’ signature whacky sensibility to make the modes feel unique. In Capture the Babe, players will not only compete against another team for control of the “babe,” but must also deal with the babe’s attempts to escape. If she gets out of hand, the player can give her a vigorous slap on the hindquarters and she will be much more cooperative.

Like Capture the Babe, Dukematch, Team Dukematch, and Hail to the King will be made unique via the mechanics hinted at in the single player, namely being able to take steroids, use jetpacks, grow larger, or shrink in size. It’s all well and good to hear about the multiplayer of Duke Nukem Forever, but Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford says that to truly “get” the experience - players will have to get their hands on the game.

Other juicy tidbits that are rumored to be coming out of next month’s Game Informer include customization options for Duke, the reveal of ten multiplayer maps, and more details on the game in general.

Duke Nukem Forever PAX East

Duke Nukem Forever, with each new reveal, moves closer and closer to the title that gamers hoped it would be ten years ago. Now, in the capable hands of Gearbox, Duke has a new chance for redemption, if the game can simply prove that the concept is still viable. Nobody is expecting anything truly remarkable from the title, but if these multiplayer modes are any indication, then Duke is making a return in tiptop shape.

What do you think of these four multiplayer modes for Duke Nukem Forever? What other multiplayer additions would you like to see that utilize the humorous side of the property?

Duke Nukem Forever releases May 3, 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
