In 2016, Gearbox Software released Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour to celebrate the classic 3D Realms first-person shooter. That release included new content, such as eight levels, additional songs, and fresh voice lines by Duke's voice actor Jon St. John. Now the game is officially going to be available on the go through the Nintendo Switch with even more added elements.

The Duke Nukem game is being ported by Polish developer and publisher SONKA, and according to a press release and reveal trailer will include gyro "motion aiming and kicking," local ad-hoc multiplayer, and will feature the Switch's HD Rumble. It will be available June 23 for $9.99 with all content included, and on launch there will be a 50 percent discount for a limited time, according to the press release.

This port comes after a long, turbulent history for Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour. In 2019, Gearbox Software was sued by composer Bobby Prince, as was the company's CEO Randy Pitchford, for unpaid royalties on the remastered edition.

Following that just this month, Gearbox filed a Duke Nukem-related lawsuit against the series' original developers, Apogee Software and 3D Realms, over not informing Gearbox about its outstanding licensing deal with Prince before selling the property in 2010. With this case ongoing it's surprising to see the Duke Nukem 3D remaster continuing to release on more platforms, but Switch-owning Duke fans should be happy with the decision all the same.

Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary Edition World Tour is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch port releasing June 23.
