As you're most probably aware, the Game Developer's Conference has just closed its doors for 2010, but news and rumors are still trickling through the cracks, most notably about the DS2.

Early in February, we reported rumors that Nintendo would be announcing the DS2 at GDC, and whilst that didn't happen, more developers have begun to step forward, spilling all sorts of interesting tidbits.

Over at RPad, Raymond Pordilla has been doing some sleuthing and seems to confirm the notion that developers are expecting the new hardware to ship Holiday 2010. Whilst the developers could hold onto their titles until next year, they believe they'll have the games completed by Holiday 10, so it's certainly a possibility.

Just like the DS, the DS2 will have two screens, only they'll be larger and spaced closer together on the new system, meaning that the two screens could act as a more convincing single screen if needs be. No news as to whether the supposed 'larger screens' equate to larger than the DSi XL (pictured above) or larger than the standard DS screen, but I'd assume the latter is more likely.

The DS2 will also include an accelerometer, much like the iPhone. There's nothing mentioned about whether it will introduce Tactile Feedback, but hey, these patents aren't made for nothing, you know.

And lastly, but by no means least-ly, the power of the DS2 will be equatable to that of the Gamecube (and thus, pretty damned close to the Wii). According to anonymous developer sources, the Gamecube's CPUs and GPUs have been shrunk down to handheld size, meaning that the architecture behind the DS2 will be pretty similar to the Gamecube. So expect everything from Carnival Games, to Metroid Prime, to Super Mario Sunshine quality graphics. All I have to say is;

Luigi's Mansion 2, anyone?

Naturally, all of the above are mere rumors, but they all seem pretty plausible to me. A handheld, dual-screen Gamecube with motion sensing and rumble? Sign me up!
