Hot on the heels of the announcement of Kanye West as the closing act for Call of Duty XP comes the reveal of who will round out the first day of activities for the Call of Duty fan convention. Fulfilling that counter-programming category, the Dropkick Murphys will be delivering your Friday night entertainment.

While the Dropkick Murphys and Kanye West are necessarily the first musical groups that come to mind when one thinks of Call of Duty — that connection is reserved for the likes of the Rolling Stones and Metallica — these two closing acts are helping justify the $150 price tag for the event.

Obviously fans will be more focused on the key events of Call of Duty XP like the Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer preview and the $1 Million tournament, but getting a chance to relax with some time name musical talent is a perfect way to round out an evening. So, for those of you that are keeping track, that's a Dropkick Murphys concert on Friday and a Kanye West concert on Saturday. Call of Duty XP looking enticing yet?

For those that have never heard of the Dropkick Murphys they are best described as an Irish Punk band with some traditional rock ‘n roll sensibilities thrown in. Probably there biggest claim to fame in the media world was when one of their songs was featured on the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese’s The Departed -- it plays near the beginning of the film.

If you’re interested in checking out any part of Call of Duty XP, or just want to come away with a hardened edition of Modern Warfare 3, tickets are still available on the convention’s official site. Taking place over Labor Day weekend (September 2nd and 3rd), Call of Duty XP will provide gamers, including those watching the live streams at home, with some unadulterated Call of Duty content.

Are the Dropkick Murphys a good choice for Call of Duty XP? What bands/artists would you like to have seen play during the event?
