With the launch of Dreams, players have created a variety of different games and levels. Dreams allows players to become creators, giving them a wide assortment of avenues to explore. One fan decided to pay tribute to the legendary Donkey Kong franchise by creating a brand new adventure, starring the big guy and Diddy Kong in a 3D platforming environment.

The expansive lengths that creators can stretch the usage of Dreams' creation tools is nothing short of amazing. The extent to what can be created in-game may be limited, but fans have been able to take the tool and make some stunning creations, like one Dreams creator who paid homage to Ratchet and Clank complete with references and mechanics to the franchise. This is no exception as one fan managed to create a world of 3D levels based on the Donkey Kong franchise.

First posted on Reddit by user DonkeyKongOdyssey, the 3D Donkey Kong game, dubbed Donkey Kong Odyssey, is complete with six levels and a boss fight. While the user and title of the game might bring to mind an open-world 3D Donkey Kong game like Super Mario Odyssey, this dream goes for a Crash Bandicoot-style game design. This can be seen with a level select that covers the map of DK Island and linear 3D levels. The latest update adds in a classic minecart level, capped off with a boss fight between Donkey Kong and a snake enemy. Other playable additions in the game include a series of mini-games revolving around DK's animal buddies like Rambi the Rhino and Squawks the Parrot.

In the comments of the Reddit post, players were impressed at the faithful translation of the classic platforming and levels of Donkey Kong Country into 3D, and how different it felt to Donkey Kong 64. Some noted that while the idea of an open world 3D adventure would be an amazing concept to explore with the Kongs, the route this creation went fit perfectly for DK. The creator agreed with the sentiment, as they noted the limitations of the creation engine prevented an open 3D world from being created.

Despite the limitations, this Dreams creation is looking to be one of the most ambitious. That being said, with this being a fan creation of a popular Nintendo IP, there is a certain degree of caution regarding this game. The company is known for being notoriously protective of its IPs, as evidenced by the takedown of a popular Mario Dreams creation last year. Despite this, the Dreams community can create some incredibly tributes, and this one is no exception.

Dreams is available now on PS4.
