Looking to take out some players to sabotage this chilly expedition? Poison is one of the best ways to do it. Here's how to make it. Dread Hunger is a gripping survival game with a twist, it involves deception, betrayal, and keeping many secrets and questionable urges from crewmates. One of the best elements of this game is the introduction of Thralls. Thralls are crewmates who seem to be bent on destruction and the murder of the other crewmembers. They must do everything they can to sabotage the mission and end the lives of anyone who stands in their way.

One of the best elements these Thralls have at their disposal, other than dark magic, is Poison. It's a useful and relatively well-hidden item that can be devastating to the crew who just want to get through the ice around them. Here's how to make it.

What Poison Is Used For

Approaching someone with a syringe

Poison itself is a subtle and often devastating element of Dread Hunger that will quickly become a favorite among any player who gets on board, although it's the most useful for Thralls, as long as they don't ingest it themselves. Essentially, poison is an item that, when ingested, will hurt the player over time. It does a decent amount of damage and is guaranteed to make anyone panic. Poison lasts for seven minutes on a player if they don't have a cure, so it might not kill them instantly but will leave them vulnerable. To cure themselves the player will need to use an Antidote or Laudanum or simply rest.

Unfortunately, poisoning someone isn't too subtle since they will soon start to vomit and lose health rapidly, likely sending them into a panic and blaming everyone around them. This makes it ideal for a bit of chaos and enough damage to allow for a much easier kill.

What Players Can Poison

Poisoning meat

Players can poison a fair few items in Dread Hunger. However, if feeding them the poison manually isn't the aim the player can always apply it to them with a syringe. Nevertheless, the player can use the following items to effectively poison their victim.

Syringe

While this may not be the most subtle way to poison someone it's effective, quick, and does what many need it to do.

Stew

Stew is a particularly useful item to poison due to the number of people that can eat it. However, there are many ways to poison a stew rather than simply inserting it into the finished product.

Cooked Meat

If players want to poison the meat they can very easily poison a whole stack by simply dropping the poison on top of the stack itself. It's a relatively simple yet effective way to poison someone.

Raw Animal Meat

Before putting Raw Animal Meat in the stew, if players poison this ingredient they will end up poisoning the entire stew.

This can be a bit more subtle and easier to do than the stew itself.

Raw Human Meat

Poisoning Raw Human Meat is an ideal way to catch out a Thrall or just someone who is very hungry and doesn't really care about what they're eating.

Bones

Similar to the Raw Human Meat, getting a Thrall to enjoy this is a great plan. Or the player could try tricking someone into eating stew with poisoned bones which will both inflict cannibalism and poison.

Tea

Poison can be ingested through food or drink. Some players may not expect their Tea to be tainted and everyone needs something warm to drink in such a cold climate, perfect for a bit of poison.

Herbs

Another element of cooking the player can poison. It's ideal for a more subtle addition and is ideal for poisoning the entire meal.

Blubber

Blubber is a risky item to poison. After all, there's not much point in poisoning an item to only watch it be used for lighting rather than food. Players will need to poison this and put it in the stew without being seen.

Laudanum

This is by far the funniest element to poison. Laudanum can be used to nullify the effects of poison, although it does take a while to do so. Nothing is funnier than poisoning someone and giving them another poisoned Laudanum to help cure them only to watch it happen all over again.

Arrows

Useful for poisoning from afar. However, once the arrow has been shot it uses its poisoned effect, so this is purely a one-time use.

How To Make Poison

Searching containers

Thankfully, making poison is relatively simple. It requires few ingredients and doesn't really take long to craft either. It also requires the same ingredients as Tea does, so it makes for a good cover-up as to why players want the ingredients from those who find it.

To make poison in Dread Hunger players will need to get hold of three dried herbs. They can find these herbs inside containers, alternatively, poison itself can also be found in containers if players are lucky enough. Once the player has got the poison ready by crafting it all they need to do is drag the poison onto the item the player wants to merge it with. This will create the perfect trap, whether the player is a Thrall or a Crewmate.
