Although they were seldom encountered at the beginning of Pokémon, they have become more abundant with the continual adding of new Pokémon. Dragon is a unique element that is only weak against Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Before the existence of a Fairy-type, it was a near-impossible challenge to face a Dragon-type Pokémon.
Dragonite, the first Dragon-type we encountered in the anime was labeled as an "unknown" Pokémon by Pokémon Researcher Bill. 10 Mega Garchomp
As if Garchomp wasn't already a mighty Pokémon, Mega Garchomp is even more terrifying and ferocious. In appearance, there are many similarities between a Mega Garchomp and a Scyther, but Scyther is far more pervasive throughout Pokémon culture.
We know so little about Mega Garchomp. Its Pokémon Moon Pokédex entry states, "Its vaunted wings become scythes, sending it mad with rage. It swings its scythes wildly and slices the ground to pieces."
9 Tyrantrum
Using a Jaw Fossil, one can obtain a Tyrunt, and later evolve it into a Tyrantrum. For those who didn't already figure it out (.0001% of people), Tyrantrum is modeled after a tyrannosaurus rex—it is also a Dragon-type Pokémon. Oddly, Pokémon's creators decided to make it a Dragon-type Pokémon when so many others like it should belong to a Fossil-type.
Other examples of Pokémon who could be considered a Fossil-type include Aerodactyl, Kabutops, Relicanth, Rampardos, Aurorus, and the list goes on. It's been a while since we've seen ingenuity like what is behind Tyrantrum.
8 Salamence
The girth of this Pokémon alone should place it in this list ranking the ten most ferocious Dragon-type Pokémon. Salamence is the final form in a three-stage evolution chain. It succeeds Bagon and evolves from a Shelgon at level 50.
According to Salamence's Pokédex entry from Pokémon Sun, "When angered, it loses all sense of itself and destroys everything around it. The destruction will continue until Salamence has tired itself out." This Pokémon is inexorable in battle and can be considered one of Pokémon's most ferocious Dragon-types.
7 Dragonite
Notably, Dragonite is a Generation I Pokémon and is well-recognized in the Pokémon community. Although it can appear cute and cuddly, Dragonite is by no means a docile Pokémon. It has extraordinarily high Attack and Special Attack, so there is little preventing Dragonite from getting the best of your Pokémon lineup.
According to Dragonite's Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Pokédex entry, "Dragonite is capable of circling the globe in just 16 hours. It is a kindhearted Pokémon that leads lost and foundering ships in a storm to the safety of land."
6 Zekrom
Those lightning bolts behind Zekrom are not just for effect. Zekrom is a dual-type Pokémon which is Dragon-type and Electric-type. It is a legendary Pokémon, and one of the few who uses DNA Splicers to take on a new form. As Black Kyurem, it is capable of tremendous power.
Zekrom appeared in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS as interference on the Unova Pokémon League stage. According to Zekrom's Pokémon Omega Ruby Pokédex entry, "his legendary Pokémon can scorch the world with lightning. It assists those who want to build an ideal world."
5 Reshiram
In the Pokémon White and Black generation, Reshiram appeared as the counterpart to Zekrom. On the contrary to what you might have guessed, Reshiram is the cover Pokémon of Pokémon Black and not Pokémon White. The Pokémon creators must have figured it would be too hard to see Reshiram against a white background.
Also, using DNA Splicers, Reshiram can transform into an even more powerful form. Reshiram learns a variety of moves, learning its last move when it hits level 100. Its level 100 technique, Blue Flare, has a whopping 130 Special Attack power!
4 Mega Charizard X
Finally labeled the type that it deserves to be, Mega Charizard X is a dual-type Dragon-type and Fire-type Pokémon. An increase in size and a change in color from being predominantly orange to mostly blue are what separate Mega Charizard X from Charizard.
Since the beginning of Pokémon, Charizard has been an icon. Whether it is the trading cards, video games, or anime, Charizard steals the show at every turn. According to Mega Charizard X's Let's Go Pikachu Pokédex entry, "The overwhelming power that fills its entire body causes it to turn black and create intense blue flames."
3 Kyurem
Part Dragon-type and part Ice-type, Kyurem does not have any evolutionary forms, but it can go through a process called Absofusion, which allows it to become White Kyurem or Black Kyurem. As part of the Tao trio of the Unova region, Kyurem is a devastatingly powerful Dragon-type Pokémon.
Its appearance is reminiscent of something out of Yu-Gi-Oh! If it were a Yu-Gi-Oh! monster it would be called a red-eyes black dragon most definitely.
2 Giratina
Pokémon Platinum was the last game to feature the short-legged characters from which we became familiar. Love or hate the changes for the better or, the worse, there is likely no going back to the good ole days. Unlike other generations, there was a tremendous amount of build-up before encountering Pokémon Platinum's featured legendary, Giratina.
As a Dragon-type and Ghost-type Pokémon, it can learn Shadow Force, Shadow Claw, Dragon Claw, and Dragon Breath. According to Giratina's Pokédex entry from Pokémon Platinum, "It was banished for its violence. It silently gazed upon the old world from the Distortion World."
1 Mega Rayquaza
What makes Mega Rayquaza stand out from other mega evolutions is the fact it can carry any item while mega evolving. Rayquaza is not dependant on mega evolution stones, so it has a tremendous advantage over other Pokémon. As the spinoff Pokémon to the mascot of Pokémon Emerald, it is okay to be bewildered by this dreadful Pokémon.
Its base Attack and Special Attack are both 180. Mega Rayquaza doesn't have a Pokédex entry in any of the games, adding to the mystery behind this legendary Pokémon.
