Besides Final Fantasy, one of the biggest and longest-running JRPG franchises in history is Dragon Quest, but despite this, the franchise has never made it to Xbox consoles. That will change this December, as it's been announced by Square Enix that Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition will be coming to Xbox One on December 4. And better yet, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to play at no additional charge.

The Dragon Quest 11 Xbox One announcement was made during the Xbox Games Showcase pre-show, hosted by Geoff Keighley under the Summer Game Fest banner. For the uninitiated, Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition is the enhanced version of the game, originally released for the Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest 11 S features all of the content found in the original version of the game, plus some big bonuses. For example, players can choose to play through the entire game with Japanese voice acting, as well as play it in 16-bit if they want a more retro feel. New orchestral music has been added, and there is some additional story content for players to try out as well. So not only is Dragon Quest 11 coming to Xbox One, but the best version of the game is coming to the platform.

Dragon Quest 11 reviews were highly positive at the time of the game's release, with many critics praising it for staying true to its roots while also modernizing many aspects of the classic, turn-based JRPG experience. Now Xbox fans can see what all the fuss is about, and it's a great touch that they will be able to do so at no additional cost if they're already signed up for Microsoft's Game Pass service.

Xbox Game Pass was a major focus of the Xbox Games Showcase event that took place earlier today. All of the titles shown during the event will be debuting on Xbox Game Pass day one, which adds significant value to the service.

In future, it will be interesting to see if Square Enix brings some of its other big games to Game Pass, and if future Dragon Quest titles will be available on Xbox without such a long wait for fans.

Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition comes to Xbox One on December 4, and is already available on PC, PS4, and Switch.
