Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age is considered to be one of the best RPGs of 2018, earning widespread critical acclaim and selling millions of copies worldwide. Now Dragon Quest 11 is coming to the Nintendo Switch as Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age S, and it will be enhanced with some brand new features, including the ability to switch to 16-bit graphics.

The ability to switch between Dragon Quest 11's modern HD visuals and 16-bit, SNES-style graphics is an interesting feature for sure, but some may think of it more as a novelty. Those looking for more substance in Dragon Quest Quest 11 S, perhaps to give them a reason to pick up the game again, will be happy to know that there are other enhancements as well. This includes new story content, new music, and the option to speed up battles.

Dragon Quest 11 S is being billed as the "definitive edition" of the game, and it certainly sounds like it will live up to that name. Unfortunately, any Dragon Quest fans who are looking forward to the JRPG epic may have to wait awhile, as it's currently scheduled for release in "late" 2019, and no specific release month has been given at this time.

As previously stated, Dragon Quest 11 was one of the top-rated RPGs last year, and so it's exciting to see it come to the Nintendo Switch. In our own Dragon Quest 11 review, we called it an absolute must-play, and it's going to go a long way in making the Switch's growing library of games that much more impressive.

The Switch certainly seems to be becoming the go-to platform for JRPGs. Besides Dragon Quest 11, the Nintendo Direct presentation also showcased some other Japanese role-playing games including classics like Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 9. Newer JRPGs were also highlighted, like Oninaki, for instance.

Between Oninaki, the classic Final Fantasy re-releases, and Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age S, 2019 is shaping up to be a banner year for JRPG fans on the Switch.

Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age S will launch later this year for the Nintendo Switch.
