Since it premiered in 2018, the Netflix animated series The Dragon Prince has garnered a strong following among fans of fantasy shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender thanks to a similar mix of memorable characters, intriguing worldbuilding, and wartime drama. And soon fans will have more ways to experience its story, as a tabletop RPG based on the show has been announced.

During a Comic-Con@Home panel this weekend, it was confirmed that The Dragon Prince has been renewed for four more seasons to complete its saga. Tying into that announcement was the reveal of Tales of Xadia, a new RPG from Wonderstorm and Fandom that will provide fans with new “storyline content” that will serve as a bridge between the show’s third season and the upcoming Season 4.

Tales of Xadia will utilize Cortex, a modular rules system designed with more narrative-heavy experiences in mind, Fandom announced in a press release. The system has previously been used for award-winning tabletop games based on licenses including Marvel, Firefly, and Supernatural, and with Tales of Xadia, its modular structure will allow players the freedom to either stick to the official narrative or come up with their own adventure.

According to Fandom, Tales of Xadia is slated to release sometime next year, with a public playtest period planned to take place before then. While they wait for that, fans can try out the latest version of Cortex via Hammerheads, a free spotlight game that’s available on the official Cortex website.

The Dragon Prince is streaming on Netflix, and its tabletop RPG tie-in, Tales of Xadia, will release in 2021.
