Antagonists or villains are incredibly important to the story of any anime be it any genre. A carefully and perfectly crafted villain can work wonders for any manga or anime since half of the burden of any story automatically lies on the shoulders of a villain. The Anime universe has had some of the best villains or antagonists in the entire field of entertainment. Various anime franchises have produced some of the finest villains, but it was Dragon Ball Z that should be given the credit for creating the most unconventional anime villain. And it is not Cell, even though he is in a different league.

Dragon Ball Z's Majin Buu is perhaps the most unconventional anime villain of all time. The pink blob-like monster who has a sweet tooth and a knack for destruction stands apart because of his personality traits and destructive and overpowered abilities. Akira Toriyama bestowed Majin Buu with the characteristics that make him a force to reckon with but with a few twists and catches which make him an unconventional villain.

Escalation of Majin Buu

Before Buu is physically revealed in the anime, there is a decent amount of build-up till he is finally hatched. With everyone expecting a wicked and dangerous-looking creature to be the byproduct of hatching, the situation gets inverted soon as they come across Majin Buu in his physical form. Majin Buu comes off as a funny take on the anime villains who are often heavily build maniacs while Buu is a pink blob-like creature with a child-like personality. The fans were in dismay to see Buu as they were in for a sinister villain but little did they know that Akira Toriyama took them for a spin, and they were in for a big surprise as the Buu saga continued. Majin Buu is initially shown as a dumb creature but is a clever and cunning creature who is also good at strategizing things. This was so because Toriyama wanted to show that a villain need not necessarily look like a villain to be a nefarious villain, and Buu is a perfect example.

Majin Buu's first form is unaware of the ultimate destructive power that he possesses and is driven by a child-like impulse. It is later revealed the reason why he is the way he is, is that he absorbed the Grand Supreme Kai previously and took his shape, therefore, he became a jolly blob. He was unaware of the fact that Grand Supreme Kai did not just affect his body but also his overall personality. Buu eventually gets defeated but in a non-traditional way as he sees a change of heart when Mr. Satan tells him that he can have fun without killing people and destroying people. Then comes the real havoc, the real sinister versions of Majin Buu.

Buu's Multiple Forms

It was a trademark of the Dragon Ball Z series to give its protagonists and villains multiple and unique forms. After the innocent Buu becomes good at listening to Mr. Satan's friendly advice, the fans witness the separation of Evil Buu from the innocent Buu, and he easily defeats the Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks and is worthy of being the villain that fans were initially hyped to see. He is similar to his former self but is not the same jolly blob-like creature instead, he is unpredictable, and does not follow the code of honor, unlike the previous villains in the series. He wreaks havoc on the Z-warriors, gives them a tough time, destroys the Earth, and kills everyone. Then, he proceeds to consume the Z-warriors, he eventually absorbs ultimate Gohan and becomes the Ultimate Buu given the fact that Gohan is one of the most powerful characters in the entire Dragon Ball franchise. Ultimate/Super Buu sets all hell loose until he is given a proper beating by the potara earrings fusion of Goku and Vegeta called Vegito.

When Ultimate/Super Buu is defeated, the final and the original or pure form of Majin Buu is Kid Buu. As noted from the name, Kid Buu form of Majin is a monstrous kid who is a life force that had destroyed planets and invoked terror into galaxies millions of years before the events of Dragon Ball Z. He is the final villain of the Buu Saga and the overall final villain of Dragon Ball Z series. Kid Buu has a personality of a kid like his previous forms. He does not care for logic or rationality and has no trace of sanity in him, unlike his previous forms. He is the equivalent of evil in its purest form. He is so powerful that it took the power of everyone on Earth in the form of a spirit bomb to defeat him. Majin Buu is far different from the traditional or average anime villain, Akira Toriyama intentionally made him be a kid-like creature for a kid who wealds destructive powers, is diabolical, and is like a psychopath in nature who has different layers (his multiple forms), and the original one is driven by pure evil.
