Prior to the release of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, many fans were curious about how fusions-in game would work. Vegito and Gotenks are some of the most popular fusions in the franchise, after all, and the answer was somewhat disappointing. Players could only play Vegito and Gotenks in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot by repeating their same story missions, meaning a couple of battles over and over. There's been no indication of that changing since its initial release.

Now, the Nintendo E3 Direct has confirmed that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is releasing for Switch on September 24. Players who pick it up on the Switch will also have access to the first two boss battle episodes, as well as the ability to purchase the newly-released Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Trunks DLC without waiting as long as PC, PS4, and Xbox owners have. However, that's not the only thing with a smaller wait time coming to the Switch version, including new ways to play Vegito and Gotenks.

The Switch version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will come with new sub-stories and content where players will once again be able to take on the role of Vegito and Gotenks. It also seems with the wording of "fully playable" that it'll extend beyond just these new stories. The most likely scenario is that there's only a couple of sub-stories for these characters, but it's also likely these new sub-stories will allow them to face off with new villains, regardless of canon. Bandai Namco did reveal this would come to other platforms at a later date, but not when, meaning the Switch version of the game is getting long-requested content first.

Notably, PC players have not been as impacted by this as console owners. There's a mod for everything, allowing players to check out content as Gotenks or Vegito in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. It can ever go so far as Super Saiyan Blue Vegito or other characters like Beerus and Whis. Console players without mods have had quite the wait on their hand, and it was never clear this was actually going to happen. As with the game's DLC, it seems that console owners are going to have to wait on this content, which may rain on some parades.

Come September 24, the only way to play as Vegito and Gotenks outside their perspective story missions on non-PC platforms will be on the Switch. Here's hoping the console release isn't that far behind.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It releases on September 24 for Switch.
