There have been many Dragon Ball games that attempt to retell the story of Dragon Ball Z in their own way. While these were mostly great games, it seems that none will come close to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. This game has promised to provide the most faithful retelling of the story yet, and with its decision to be a single player action-adventure RPG rather than a PVP based multiplayer game, developers are able to accurately portray the uphill battles that characters in this franchise often face. Vegeta embodies the uphill battle concept very well. Vegeta is the firs true Villain, but quickly joins the rest of the cast facing foes far above him. So what techniques does Vegeta have that may transfer over into this upcoming Dragon Ball Z game?
For those that don't know, Vegeta is the son of King Vegeta, and the prince of all Saiyans. Of course, it would be surprising if fans didn't already know this, as he never misses an opportunity to tell everyone. Vegeta's story is the classic redemption arc; he begins as the series' main antagonist, transitions into an anti-hero of sorts, and ends as a true hero willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. Vegeta's moves and techniques are particularly unique, as he is the only character in the show to be formally trained as a Saiyan warrior, utilizing their techniques in his fighting style. Players of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will likely have this full array of abilities at their disposal.
Gallick Gun
Vegeta's trademark technique is the Gallick Gun. This move is similar to the Kamehameha or the Masenko in that it is a charged energy beam, but its color is purple. This move is Vegeta's go-to for dealing heavy damage and sometimes outright killing his opponents. He first uses this technique in his battle against Goku at the end of the Saiyan Saga, so it is sure to be one of his starting moves once players gain control of him in the Frieza Saga.
Super Vegeta
This is Vegeta's take on the Super Saiyan transformation, which he achieved during his training waiting for the Androids to arrive. Though it is functionally the same, some video games differentiate the two forms by granting Super Vegeta a greater boost to ki attacks and Super Saiyan a higher physical attack boost. Either way, Vegeta will have access to this transformation during most of the Cell Saga and onward. Interestingly enough, Vegeta never achieved Super Saiyan 3 like Goku did, capping out at Super Saiyan 2.
Final Flash
Final Flash is Vegeta's ultimate attack, and one unique to him that he created himself while training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Vegeta spreads his arms, charges energy, brings his hands together, and fires an extremely destructive blast forward. He first used this ability against Perfect Cell, charging the beam for several minutes before firing it. Cell acts cocky at first, challenging Vegeta to hit him head-on with the beam, but panics and tries to dodge at the last moment. This proves ineffective as the beam completely disintegrates his torso and much of the ground around him. This attack is by far the strongest beam attack in the series, surpassing the Kamehameha and the Gallick Gun, and is capable of being charged for extended periods of time, resulting in devastating power. Players should have access to this powerhouse of a move in the Cell and Buu Sagas.
Big Bang Attack
Another move unique to Vegeta, the Big Bang Attack is Vegeta's most destructive technique. Vegeta forms a ball of energy and cast it towards an opponent, upon impact, the ball explodes creating a massive shockwave and leaving a mushroom cloud behind. He first uses this power against Android 19, and it completely obliterates the Android. Seeing as this was also his first fight as a Super Saiyan, fans will likely gain access to this technique at the same time during the Cell Saga as Super Vegeta. Although it is not as powerful as the Final Flash ability, it is much quicker and is indiscriminately destructive.
Final Explosion
Vegeta's most powerful attack is also one of the most gut-wrenching moments in the Dragon Ball Z series. After helping to bring about Majin Buu's return, Vegeta decides to atone and sacrifice himself to destroy the beast. He bids farewell to his family, hugging his son Trunks for the first time, and uses Final Explosion. Gathering up all of his life force and converting it into energy, Vegeta creates an explosion so powerful it completely decimates the strongest villain in Dragon Ball Z yet, but at the cost of Vegeta's own life. Although Majin Buu was able to regenerate from this attack, it may be the single most powerful technique used in the entire Dragon Ball Z anime, barring the final Spirit Bomb which destroyed Kid Buu. Given the dire consequences of using this technique, it's unlikely it will be in players' movesets, but some variation such as Super Explosive Wave may show up for players to use.
Physical Techniques
Vegeta is also an extremely talented hand-to-hand combat with. He has several martial arts attacks he uses frequently in the anime which have been converted into super moves for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. This screenshot shows body blow, a swift punch to the gut, and Dragon Hammer, a double fisted downward slam, as two of Vegeta's abilities. Gameplay for Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot shows that these attacks will be extremely powerful physical strikes which consume much less ki then other super moves.
The prince of all Saiyans certainly has his fair share of unique and powerful techniques. Fans of Vegeta are sure to be satisfied with his portrayal in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, as both the powerful villain and a valuable ally. These are but a few of Vegeta's most iconic techniques, and it's very possible that more will be available for players to customize their moveset in the full game. The wait for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is almost over, and players will soon see for themselves what sort of firepower the prince of all Saiyans will bring to the fight.
