Some new images from Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot reveal a slight error in detail concerning Vegeta's fight with Android 18.

In the anime and manga, once Vegeta gains the power of a Super Saiyan, he becomes more conceded and arrogant than ever before. And then Android 18 shows up and kills his vibe by reminding him that there's always someone stronger. She gives Vegeta a beating that ends in one of the most memorable moments in Dragon Ball Z: She breaks his arm.

Specifically, she breaks his left arm with both the anime and manga going out of their way to depict this. However, in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Android 18 breaks Vegeta's right arm instead. This detail might not matter in the grand scheme of things, but it is still a fairly strange oversight.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot prides itself on being the best video game retelling of the DBZ storyline. When depicting iconic moments from the series, the game draws on the story's source material for reference. The recreation of Goku' Super Saiyan 3 transformation serves as a pretty good example of this. It seems a bit strange then that the game would mess up one of Vegeta's most humbling moments.

Now, the game has taken liberties with scenes from the series before, but it doesn't look like that's the case this time. Usually, when the game does its own thing, it further dramatizes events, like with Vegito versus Majin Buu. With Vegeta and Android 18, though, it just seems like a mistake was made, as the change doesn't work to do anything different with the story. It would be weird for it to have come about on purpose.

Vegeta's broken arm is so memorable because something like it had never happened in DBZ up until that point. It also never happened again. The series wasn't a stranger to bodily mutilation, of course. It was fairly common to see a limb or two blown or chopped off, but's that's precisely the reason why seeing Vegeta's arm getting broken is so iconic — weirdly enough. Android 18 didn't take the arm off completely; she just snapped it clean and let Vegeta limp around with it.

Regardless of which arm Android 18 breaks, this concept should remain the same in the game. Besides, the mistake doesn't take away from everything else that the game has to offer.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot releases January 17 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
