Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot proved to be great fun for players despite concerns that it would retell the worn out story of Dragon Ball Z. The game proved that it isn't the story of Dragon Ball Z that is worn out, but the way in which video games have told it, and by adding RPG elements and removing multiplayer aspects, developers were able to provide a great experience. With that in mind, some fans find themselves wanting to replay certain moments of the story, a wish which will soon be granted not by Shenron, but by the developers after they roll out the time machine update coming soon.

For those unaware, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot developers recently promised an update which would make Bulma's present day time machine much more functional. Currently, the time machine allows players to use Future Trunks during the end game free roam, but soon it will give players the ability to travel back to different sagas so they can complete certain timed sub-stories they might have missed or just replay great and memorable scenes from the game's story. The ability to replay certain story scenes has been a highly requested feature since the game's release, so fans are understandably excited to revisit these great moments.

Final Battle With Raditz

For no other Dragon Ball Z game would this fight ever make a list such as this, but Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot treats Goku's evil brother much differently than any other game before it. Raditz was the first great threat to Earth in Dragon Ball Z, and his overwhelming power along with the surprising reveal that Goku is in fact an alien (a claim which the original Dragon Ball refutes often) make him an extremely interesting character. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot redeems Raditz by making his boss fight incredibly difficult compared to any other incarnation of the Saiyan.

Ironically, due to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's backward difficulty curve, Raditz is one of the hardest bosses in the entire game. Despite being the weakest boss by far in the canon, by the time the player is facing down the likes of Kid Buu, they have gotten so powerful through meals, leveling up, and the use of transformations like Super Saiyan 3 that the game becomes rather easy. The fight with Raditz on the other hand pits players against an incredibly powerful foe while the player's strongest move is a base level 1 Kamehameha.

Goku Vs. Frieza Super Saiyan Transformation

As one of the undisputedly most iconic moments in all of anime history, Goku's first transformation into a Super Saiyan has to make the list. By this point, power levels among all the characters have skyrocketed, and this raises an interesting question about the time machine's mechanics. Will the time machine revert players back to a lower level when traveling back to other parts of the story, and will certain skills and abilities be unavailable as well? This is a big question which has yet to be answered and that has a serious impact on how players will use the time machine.

For instance, the fight against Frieza would feel a lot less climactic if Goku's incredible first transformation into a Super Saiyan is followed by him jumping straight to Super Saiyan 3 and curb-stomping the evil emperor in seconds. Although there is certainly comedic value to this kind of chain of events, it lacks any kind of drama. Level alone is enough to turn a serious battle into a joke, as many die-hard players that have reached level 250 would not struggle with any encounter, not even Kid Buu.

The Entire Cell Saga

Although Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot mishandled the Cell Saga to a degree, it is a well known fact that Teen Gohan is a fan favorite among players, and his screen time is limited to just the Cell Saga. Whether players decide to return to the climactic final battle with Cell and Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 transformation or just to the intermission which follows, few would pass up the chance to play this compelling character again. Although Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot does a good job of painting Adult Gohan in a better light, Teen Gohan is still far cooler.

Even beyond Gohan, there is a lot to love about the Cell Saga. Future Trunks' initial introduction and his fight with Mecha Frieza is a great moment, while Vegeta's first on screen transformation into a Super Saiyan and his beat down of Android 19 is well worth playing through again too. Cell himself is one of the more popular villains from Dragon Ball Z, and seeing him in action alongside the other Androids is always a treat. Furthermore, there are a lot of interesting sub-stories during this saga, such as the one which sees Trunks meet Eighter, an older model of Android who values pacifism over violence.

Vegito VS. Super Buu

How to Play as Vegito in DBZ Kakarot

Like the Cell Saga, there are a lot of awesome moments in the Buu Saga, but most would agree that one fight in particular stands out. After fusing with the Potara earrings, Vegeta and Goku become one warrior, dubbed Vegito. This fused warrior is by far the strongest character in all of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and his gameplay is so incredibly enjoyable that it is truly a shame that he is unplayable later. At least for now, it seems like the only way fans will get to play Vegito again is through the time machine.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is full of enticing moments which fans should most certainly replay once the time machine is finally released, but these are by far the most exciting possibilities. The chance to go back to great story beats and also to play characters like Teen Gohan and the fused warriors Gotenks and Vegito is finally coming to players, as the time machine should be usable by the end of the month. With this alongside the upcoming Gods of the Universe DLC, there is no shortage of things to be excited about for the future of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
