Since their first meeting in the Saiyan Saga of Dragon Ball Z, Goku and Vegeta's rivalry has been at the center of all things Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot continues that tradition, with the two Saiyans growing ever stronger side by side but rarely outclassing each other by any significant margin. After the release of DLC 1, fans were curious about who was the strongest Super Saiyan God in DBZ: K, and now the same question holds true for Super Saiyan Blue. Will this new power upgrade upset the balance between the two Saiyans or will they both remain competitive?
Goku and Vegeta are clearly the strongest playable characters in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, as even now they have access to the strongest transformation of any character, Super Saiyan God. This power disparity is only going to increase with the release of Super Saiyan Blue, causing more heads to turn towards trying to answer which of the two of them is the strongest and most suited for battle. Ultimately, there is no distinct answer in that respect, as each character has certain strengths and weaknesses, but there are some interesting differences that are worth looking at.
Super Saiyan Blue in DBZ: Kakarot
The exact details of Super Saiyan Blue have yet to be confirmed, but players can extrapolate its effects based on the boosts provided by previous Super Saiyan forms. With each new form a character unlocks, its level one boost tends to be as strong as the previous form's level three boost. After fully leveling up the new form to level three, its total power boost is about 50% higher than before. With that in mind, Super Saiyan Blue will most likely provide a 200% boost to all stats when first attained, but players that level it up to level three will get a 250% boost when activated. It will also probably drain Ki when used unless Auto Super Saiyan Blue is equipped.
This should be the exact same for both Goku and Vegeta, meaning to truly answer which is better players need to look at their base forms. This is where Goku and Vegeta differ the most, as each character has a focus on specific stats, and their super attacks also will help to determine what their strengths and weaknesses are. It should be said that it is possible that Super Saiyan Blue will work differently from Super Saiyan God, but there's no information to support that as of yet. Players will also need to take into account the potential for a level cap increase in DBZ: Kakarot DLC 2.
Goku VS. Vegeta Stats in DBZ: Kakarot
In terms of raw stats, character power level is measured by BP in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Typically, unlocking a transformation doesn't increase the character's BP, meaning this number is representative of the character's base power rather than their transformed power. Eating meals will change the number slightly, but at the current max level of 250, Goku's BP is around 23,498,632 while Vegeta's rests below that at around 22,125,404. Technically speaking, that does make Goku the stronger of the two, but in actual gameplay that isn't quite the case.
Goku's base values for HP, Melee ATK, Melee DEF, and Ki DEF are higher than those of Vegeta's, but Vegeta has higher Ki and Ki ATK stats. The differences here are mostly inconsequential in base form, but when multiplied by transformation the disparity becomes easier to see. It is made clear that Vegeta is meant to excel in the use of Ki super attacks like his upcoming new attack, Ultimate Galick Gun. By contrast, Goku is designed to be in the thick of things, taking and dealing damage with his fists rather than energy beams. This is where play style becomes really important when determining which is better.
DBZ: Kakarot Goku and Vegeta Techniques
Another thing that sets Goku and Vegeta apart are the techniques they have available to them. Goku's God Kamehameha is better at burning down the health of a singular enemy than Vegeta's attacks, but the Prince of all Saiyans' Big Bang Attack is much quicker than the Spirit Bomb and does massive damage in a huge radius. Goku also has access to more Melee ATK techniques such as his Super Dragon Fist and will be gaining another such attack with the release of DLC 2.
This supports the theory that the two characters are similar in power but excel in different fields. If taking on a single powerful enemy in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Goku may outperform Vegeta because of the high physical damage he is capable of dealing that will result in more stunning which in turn leads to more damage. On the other hand, Vegeta is more capable of handling multiple enemies at once and singular enemies that do a lot of dodging. Ultimately, though, it all comes down to player preference, as in either of the situations mentioned above, both Goku and Vegeta will do fine.
Goku and Vegeta Story Battles
These two characters are easily one of the most iconic pair of rivals in fiction, yet they rarely duke it out in a no holds barred match. Goku and Vegeta have only fought each other three times in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and none of these battles clearly define who is stronger now. During their first battle in the Saiyan Saga, Vegeta is clearly stronger than Goku, as the Saiyan raised on Earth only was able to win with the help of his many friends. The next time they fight is in the Buu Saga, but vegeta has a power boost in his Majin form and the fight is ended prematurely.
DBZ: Kakarot DLC 1 introduces a sub-story where the two do battle after unlocking Super Saiyan God, but this fight is cut short by Beerus as the Saiyans team up to try and take the God of Destruction down. More likely than not something similar will happen in DLC 2 with Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta, but fans shouldn't expect a conclusive end to that fight either. All things considered, Super Saiyan Blue Goku is technically stronger than Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, but in terms of gameplay the difference is negligible.
