Though it was just released a couple of days ago, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has quickly become the most popular game of the year so far (and already has some really ridiculous mods). It's really no surprise given that the action role-playing game is based on the incredibly popular anime of the same name.
Countless fans have spent the weekend exploring Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot searching for every Easter egg and secret from the long-running franchise. During their search, some fans think they've found a surprising Easter egg that may be a reference to a different anime - Professor Oak from Pokemon.
While exploring the game for Soul Emblems and Energetic Fish, some players have found an NPC that bears a striking resemblance to Professor Oak if he were designed by series creator Akira Toriyama. It's probably just because he's wearing a lab coat and has a similar hairstyle, but the NPC does look an awful lot like the classic Pokemon Professor. The design looks too similar for it to have just been an accident, but fans can't rule out the possibility.
This surprising cameo appearance has started some major speculation on social media about other possible connections between Dragon Ball and Pokemon. One Reddit user noticed how similar Frieza and Mewtwo look. Perhaps Professor Oak decided to get a job at the Capsule Corporation in hopes of studying this strange and powerful new Pokemon. Or maybe it's just a regular Capsule employee NPC with similar hair. Unless developer CyberConnect2 comes forward to clear the air, fans will just have to go on guessing and hoping.
Even though the game just came out on Friday, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has already become incredibly popular. The action RPG is being touted as the ultimate DBZ game, as it adapts everything from the beginning of the series when Goku first finds out he's a Saiyan all the way to the end, with every epic saga in between. The story even crosses over with other Dragon Ball Z games, but surprisingly, Kakarot doesn't feature anything from Dragon Ball Super. Despite this, it seems many fans are satisfied with the new game.
