Most of the recent news coming in for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has been exciting for fans. Some of the reveals explained how the Dragon Balls function in-game and talked about some of the special open-world encounters players will be able to find. The latest news, however, could be the first to damper the hype for some fans, specifically fans of the Nintendo Switch.

Fans of the console have been waiting for a confirmation on whether or not Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be playable on it. Sadly, Bandai Namco has confirmed that the game will not be making its way over to the Nintendo Switch. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will only be playable on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

The news comes from an inquiry handled by AltChar. One of the questions the team got to ask Bandai was whether or not the Switch would receive a port of the game, and regrettably, the answer turned out to be “no.” For Dragon Ball fans of the Nintendo Switch, this is understandably disheartening. The Switch does tend to get shortchanged in situations like this.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot not only presents itself as an enjoyable Dragon Ball RPG — something Dragon Ball fans haven’t received in years — but it also promises to be a unique Dragon Ball experience. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will feature never-before-seen canonical elements in its story, which means the game will cover events in the DBZ saga that the manga and anime didn't. Gameplay even hints that fans will be able to use a new Majin Vegeta transformation that hasn't appeared in any relevant previous titles. It’s unfortunate then that some fans won’t be able to experience all of this on their preferred console.

With the internet being what it is nowadays, Dragon Ball fans can catch up on the new storyline elements through things like YouTube, but the experience is obviously not the same. For most videogames, personal playthroughs are the best route to experience them through, and this title looks like it won't be one of the exceptions. Maybe in the future, Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 will make a port of the game for the Nintendo Switch. It's a possibility if the game does well enough to warrant a sequel, which could focus on either Dragon Ball Super or the original Dragon Ball arc.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot releases January 16, 2020, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
