Nintendo's supersized E3 Direct may have dropped bombshells like a new Metroid game and a long-awaited update on the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but the showcase was also filled with several smaller, albeit delightful surprises. One such reveal was that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, the most recent video game based on the iconic anime series, will be making its way to Switch a little over a year following its launch on other platforms.

Those wanting to take the story of Goku on the go will finally be able to do so when Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot hits the Switch this September. While it remains to be seen how the Switch port fairs when compared to its PS4 and Xbox One counterparts, the version coming to Nintendo's hybrid console will have a key advantage over the other platforms thanks to the extra content it will pack at launch.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - A New Power Awakens DLC

The Switch debut of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will feature the game's first two DLC expansions — "A New Power Awakens" parts 1 and 2 — at no additional cost. For those not in the know, these two expansions have been heavily criticized for how little they bring to the table. Both are relatively short; each can be beaten in well under two hours. Additionally, the content provided is considered to be underwhelming: DLC 1 amounted to a boss fight and a new transformation, and DLC 2 was of similar scope. While the second expansion included a new horde mode to try to liven things up, it wasn't quite the hard-hitting post-launch support fans were looking for.

There's a contentious debate to be had over the value of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's first two expansions, but it's one that Switch owners won't have to participate in. While those playing the game on Switch can still criticize the content of the first two DLCs freely, they won't have to pay for them separately from the game, which is surely an option that critics of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's post-launch support wish they could've had last year.

As stated before, the first two DLCs will be included with the Switch port, allowing those on the Switch to jump in without delay upon completing the main story. The recently-released expansion, "Trunks - The Warrior of Hope," won't be included, but given this DLC pack is out now for other platforms, it stands to reason that this downloadable story chapter will likely be available for purchase from the eShop once the new port drops.

In short, barring any delays for the Trunks DLC, every existing expansion for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be available from the get-go — a luxury not afforded to early adopters of the anime-inspired RPG. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's first DLC launched in April 2020, approximately three months following the game's release, but the second expansion wouldn't hit digital storefronts until about seven months later in November 2020. It would then take another seven months before Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's third and final DLC pack, which debuted earlier this month, would release.

It's evident that the DLC release schedule has been erratic, to say the least. Fortunately, those playing Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot for the first time on the Nintendo Switch won't have to endure a nearly year-and-a-half-long wait in order to get the full Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot experience. The post-launch woes faced by players on other platforms won't be an issue for those playing on Switch, which will surely be a treat for Switch-owning Dragon Ball Z fans.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and will launch on Nintendo Switch on September 24.
